X-ray reflectivity and vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy are used to probe the structure of ethylammonium nitrate (EAN)−air interface. reveals that EAN−air interface is structured consists alternating nonpolar charged layers extend 31 Å into bulk. Vibrational interfacial cations have their ethyl moieties oriented toward air, with CH3 C3 axis positioned ∼36.5° from normal. This invariant between 15 51 °C. On account its molecular symmetry, orientation anion cannot be determined certainty.

ABSTRACT The continuous quest for materials capable of providing extended release antimicrobial drugs is particularly important indwelling medical applications. In this study, we utilized amoxicillin as a model active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to investigate the feasibility using porous media – specifically, functionalized calcium carbonate (FCC) microparticles primary drug carrier embedded within an ethyl cellulose (EC) polymer film. Our main objective was prolong and sustain API....

The nanostructure of the ethanolammonium nitrate (EtAN)-air surface has been investigated using X-ray reflectometry (XRR), vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS) and neutral impact collision ion scattering (NICISS). XRR data decays more rapidly than expected for a perfectly sharp interface, indicating diffuse electron (scattering length) density profile. Modelling three different fitting routines produced consistent interfacial profiles that suggest formation EtAN clusters. Consistent...

Vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS) has been used to determine the stability toward oxidation in air of a series unsaturated fatty acids, measuring as function time changes chemical structure and conformational order films spread on Langmuir trough. The acids studied consisted 20-carbon backbone with increasing numbers cis double bonds chain: 11c-eicosenoic acid (20:1 EA, omega-9), 11c,14c-eicosadienoic (20:2 omega-6), 11c,14c,17c-eicosatrienoic (20:3 omega-3). Measurements at...

The adsorbed layers of polyoxyethylene n-alkyl ether surfactants C(12)E(4), C(14)E(4), and C(16)E(4) at the EAN surface have a headgroup layer that is thin compact (only approximately 30 vol % EAN). headgroups do not adopt preferred orientation are disordered within ethylene oxide layer. Alkyl tails contain significant number gauche defects indicating high degree conformational disorder. thickness tail increases with increasing alkyl chain length, while shows little change. Lowering...

The surface of aqueous solutions 4-Nitro Benzo-15-Crown-5 (NB15C5) and (B15C5) has been studied using the sensitive technique vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS). NO, CN, COC CH modes these compounds at air–water interface as well OH water hydrating this compound have targeted in order to obtain molecular information about arrangement conformation adsorbed crown ether molecules interface. CH2 ethers identified found be split due interaction with oxygen. spectra provide evidence for...

Propofol is an amphiphilic small molecule that strongly influences the function of cell membranes, yet data regarding interfacial properties propofol remain scarce. Here we consider adsorption at air/water interface as elucidated by means vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy (VSFS), neutron reflectometry (NR), and surface tensiometry. VSFS show adsorbed interacts with water in terms hydrogen bonding weakly proximity hydrocarbon parts molecule. In concentration range studied there almost no...

Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS) was employed to study adsorbing films of 4-Nitro Benzo-15-Crown-5 (NB15C5) and (B15C5) at the aqueous solution-air interface. The surface solution is strongly influenced by presence crown ether species. Changes in orientation NB15C5 were monitored as a function concentration, targeting ratio peak intensities CN NO(2) vibrational modes. water hydration has also been probed salt temperature. latter suggests that can be treated charged interface,...

The photabsorption spectrum of I IV-VI, Ba IV-VI and La V-VIII have been recorded using the dual laser produced plasma technique. At lower energies, barium lanthanum spectra are dominated by 4d→5p transitions in regions 76-79 eV 84-94 respectively, whereas for iodine 4d→nf dominant between 75-105 eV. For each spectrum, were identified with aid multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock calculations.
