Réformeof the sixteenth century, and would tell us much about transition from feudal to modern state. This raises a bigger question: must state be examined through its new institutions, as Potter seems imply, or message ideology that lay behind those institutions? The answer lies probably somewhere in middle, administrative history cannot totally separated political history.
The editors of this book have brought together a collection first-rate essays that display the range and fecundity contemporary theory.--Ralph Flores, Philosophy Literature.

The spread of humanism in fifteenth-century Italy was extraordinarily rapid and complete, so much that it could instill an uncritical complacency its adherents practitioners. By midcentury, humanist Latin had become the language Roman Curia, soon became peninsular diplomacy. Humanists filled positions bureaucracies princely courts city-republics, they took jobs as teachers secretaries houses powerful. While humanists kept alive bogeyman unlettered scholastic, whose barbarous threatened a...
We study the nature of frictional jamming transition within framework rigidity percolation theory. Slowly sheared packings are decomposed into rigid clusters and floppy regions with a generalization pebble game including contacts. discover second-order controlled by emergence system-spanning cluster accompanied critical size distribution. Rigid also correlate common measures rigidity. contrast this result frictionless jamming, where distribution is noncritical.
The inflammasome is a multiprotein complex necessary for the onset of inflammation. adapter protein ASC assembles components by acting as molecular glue between danger-signal sensors and procaspase-1. assembly mediated self-association interactions via its two Death Domains, PYD CARD. Truncated versions have been shown to form filaments, but information on filaments formed full-length needed construct meaningful model assembly. To gain insights into this system, we used combination...
The cytoskeleton of living cells contains many types crosslinkers. Some crosslinkers allow energy-free rotations between filaments and others do not. mechanical interplay these different is an open issue in cytoskeletal mechanics. Therefore, we develop a theoretical framework based on rigidity percolation to study generic filamentous system containing both stretching bond-bending forces address this issue. involves analytical calculations via effective medium theory numerical simulations...
Abstract In many rod-shaped bacteria, the actin homolog MreB directs cell-wall insertion and maintains cell shape, but it remains unclear how structural changes to affect its organization in vivo. Here, we perform molecular dynamics simulations for Caulobacter crescentus extract mechanical parameters inputs into a coarse-grained biophysical polymer model that successfully predicts filament properties Our analyses indicate double protofilaments can exhibit left-handed twisting is dependent on...
catches the tone of this heroic boast better than a flow subjectless verbs. Quenched for Saxo's extinxi is both more accurate and colorful Hansen's flaccid rid; retorted arts, strange as it sounds, does justice to loaded mutuis insidiis by counterplot. Often Elton preserves some Latinate muscle in phrase that Hansen (and Fisher his translation) weakens. The introduction's last section, Shakespearean Transformation, reviews material covered before many others, especially Geoffrey Bullough...
In 1553, six years before Tasso first began to sketch the poem that was become Gerusalemme liberata , Catholic monarchs Philip II and Mary Tudor acceded throne of England, after Protestant reigns Henry VIII Edward VI. The event celebrated in an encomiastic oration, De restituta Anglia religione ("On restoration religion England"), by minor Modenese humanist, Antonio Fiordibello. one passage Fiordibello searches for a precedent achievement new English rulers.
The emergence of collective motion, or swarming, in groups moving individuals who orient themselves using only information from their neighbors is a very general phenomenon that occurs at multiple spatio-temporal scales. Swarms occur natural environments typically have to contend with spatial disorder such as obstacles can hinder an individual's motion disrupt communication neighbors. We study swarming agents, possessing both aligning and mutually avoiding repulsive interactions, 2D...
Abstract Swarming is a phenomenon where collective motion arises from simple local interactions between typically identical individuals. Here, we investigate the effects of variability in behavior among agents finite swarms with both alignment and cohesive interactions. We show that swarming abolished above critical fraction non-aligners who do not participate alignment. In certain regimes, however, threshold can dynamically reorganize sort out excess to maintain average close value. This...
A multiscale investigation of swimming bacteria in a micropillar array permits measurement cell body sizes and long-term diffusivities individuals structured medium. When pillar spacing is on the order bacterium size, diffusivity behaves anomalously. While shorter cells are trapped by individual pillars through hydrodynamic attraction, causing them to circulate around pillars, longer escape more easily due simultaneous interactions with multiple pillars. Such size-dependent trapping escaping...
