The root endophytic basidiomycete Piriformospora indica has been shown to increase resistance against biotic stress and tolerance abiotic in many plants. Biochemical mechanisms underlying P. indica-mediated salt were studied barley (Hordeum vulgare) with special focus on antioxidants. Physiological markers for stress, such as metabolic activity, fatty acid composition, lipid peroxidation, ascorbate concentration activities of catalase, peroxidase, dehydroascorbate reductase,...
Abstract Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) NADPH oxidases have been reported to suppress the spread of pathogen- and salicylic acid-induced cell death. Here, we present dual roles RBOHD (for respiratory burst oxidase homolog D) in an Arabidopsis-Alternaria pathosystem, suggesting either initiation or prevention death dependent on distance from pathogen attack. Our data demonstrate that a rbohD knockout mutant exhibits increased at macroscopic level upon inoculation with fungus Alternaria...
Changes in ascorbate and glutathione levels activities of peroxidase, catalase, dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), (GR), S-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD) were investigated tobacco mosaic virus (TMV)-inoculated lower leaves non-inoculated upper Nicotiana tabacum L. cv Xanthi-nc. In separate experiments the effects exogenous salicylic acid (SA) also studied. Symptom appearance after TMV inoculation was preceded by a slight, transient decline GR, GST, SOD inoculated leaves, but...
Abstract Different forms and mechanisms of plant resistance are compared in this review, differentiating between innate acquired resistance. Within resistance, general non‐specific specific host treated as regards the phenomena mechanisms. Various (e.g. non‐host, basal, quantitative etc.) well (extreme gene‐for‐gene with hypersensitive response, toxin gene silencing) discussed. immune memory vs. stress animal or hosts compared. Furthermore, plants relation to salicylate metabolism, systemic...
Fusarium culmorum causes root rot in barley (Hordeum vulgare), resulting severely reduced plant growth and yield. Pretreatment of roots with chlamydospores the mutualistic root-colonizing basidiomycete Piriformospora indica (subdivision Agaricomycotina) prevented necrotization tissues retardation commonly associated rot. Quantification infections a real-time polymerase chain reaction assay revealed correlation between symptoms relative amount fungal DNA. Fusarium-infected showed levels...
The role of naturally occurring D in living organisms has been examined by using deuterium‐depleted water (30–40 ppm D) instead containing the natural abundance (150 ppm). significantly decreased growth rate L 929 fibroblast cell line, and also inhibited tumor xenotransplanted mice. Eighty days after transplantation 10 (59%) out 17 tumorous mice tumor, having grown, regressed then disappeared. We suggest that a central signal transduction involved cycle regulation.
The effect of 24-epibrassinolide (BR27) on cold resistance rape seedlings was studied by ion leakage and photosynthetic pigment degradation measurements. Aqueous solutions BR27 were injected into cotyledons or primary leaves plants these incubated at 2 °C 20 °C. Cold treatment (2 °C) without injection elevated the membrane permeability in both significantly. Surprisingly, with water 0.467 % aqueous ethanol solution led to a massive increase after stress synergistic leaf infiltration...
The role of WRKY transcription factor proteins in plant defense reactions against fungal and bacterial pathogens is well studied, but less information available about plant–virus interactions. We observed the rapid strong activation gene, CaWRKY2, pepper leaves following inoculation with Obuda virus (ObPV). In contrast, CaWRKY2 was only weakly induced by mild mottle (PMMoV) inoculation. To carry out a functional analysis gene transiently overexpressed Nicotiana benthamiana agroinfiltration....
Antioxidant status was assayed in leaves of two local lesion hosts tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), namely wild-type Xanthi-nc and NahG transgenic tobacco, the latter which is not able to accumulate salicylic acid (SA) therefore unable develop systemic acquired resistance (SAR). Activities several enzymes related antioxidative defense, levels glutathione, chlorogenic rutin were studied. The majority antioxidant less active uninfected than Xanthi-nc. Furthermore, important enzymatic non-enzymatic...
Abstract Membrane damage caused by the non‐specific fungal toxin fusaric acid was less on pre‐treated than control leaves when tobacco were pretreated with anti‐senescence plant hormones, such as kinetin, benzyladenine or anti‐ozonant N ‐[2‐(2‐oxo‐1‐imidazolidinyl)]ethyl‐ ′‐phenylurea. Similarly, necrosis mercuric chloride reduced above agents. In addition, in vitro tests, from selected paraquat‐tolerant plants sensitive to Alternaria alternata (Fr) Keissler infection those of...
Responses of cytokinin overproducing transgenic Nicotiana plants to infections with compatible and incompatible Pseudomonas syringae pathovars were compared. Plants used transformed the ipt(isopentenyl transferase) gene that catalyzes synthesis cytokinin. In lines carry ipt fused CaMV 35S (Nt+ipt), wound-inducible proteinase inhibitor II (Ntx+ipt), or light-inducible Rubisco small subunit protein (Npl+ipt) promoter, development hypersensitive response (HR) after infection bacteria (P. pv....
The present work focused on the characterization of some physiological mechanisms activated upon powdery mildew inoculation susceptible barley cultivar Ingrid and its near-isogenic lines (NILs) carrying various resistant genes (Mla, Mlg mlo). After with Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei (Bgh), measurements leaf reflectance chlorophyll a fluorescence were performed 3 7 day post-inoculation (dpi), while hormone assays made dpi. Bgh-inoculated genotypes characterized by lowered parameters that...
Enhanced antioxidant defence plays an essential role in plant survival under stress conditions. However, excessive activity sometimes suppresses the signal necessary for initiation of desired biological reactions. One such example is microspore embryogenesis (ME)—a process embryo-like structure formation triggered by immature male gametophytes. The study focused on reactive oxygen species and triticale (×Triticosecale Wittm.) barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) reprogramming. ME was induced through...
High temperatures associated with climate change may increase the severity of plant diseases. This study investigated effect heat shock treatment on host and non-host barley powdery mildew interactions using brassinosteroid (BR) mutants barley. Brassinosteroids are steroid hormones, but so far little is known about their role in plant-fungal interactions. Wild type cultivar Bowman its near-isogenic lines disturbances BR biosynthesis or signalling showed high compatibility to race A6, while...
