Abstract Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) shedding and antibody responses are not fully understood, particularly in relation to underlying medical conditions, clinical manifestations, mortality. We enrolled MERS-CoV–positive patients at a hospital Saudi Arabia periodically collected specimens from multiple sites for real-time reverse transcription PCR serologic testing. conducted interviews chart abstractions collect clinical, epidemiologic, laboratory information....
The 2022 Monkeypox virus (Mpox) outbreak had involved multiple countries around the globe. Here, we report clinical features and outcome of human Mpox first cases in Saudi Arabia. We obtained records confirmed Arabia from public electronic health information system, Health Electronic Surveillance Network (HESN) healthcare providers completed a de-identified structured data collection form. reported seven were travel-related all males between 24 41 years age (mean + SD) was 30.14 (+ 6.69)...
Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are recognized risk factors for severe clinical outcomes, including death, associated with Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus infection. Among 32 virus-infected patients in Saudi Arabia, severity of illness frequency death corresponded closely presence multiple more underlying conditions.
Antibiotics are essential and abundantly prescribed in hospitals because of their effectiveness lifesaving benefits. However, the unnecessary use antibiotics has been observed earlier studies, it persisted through recent years as a major issue since is one leading causes antibiotic resistance. The increase resistance nowadays most critical concerns global public health around world. objective this study was to evaluate knowledge perceptions related prescription among physicians at our...
Using an algorithm including both enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and nucleic acid amplification (NAAT) for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) diagnosis, we found that the use of NAAT versus EIA almost doubled our hospital-onset CDI laboratory-identified (LabID) event standardized ratio (SIR). We recommend current risk adjustment approach be modified. Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol 2016:1-3.
The threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) has attracted the highest level attention after United Nation (UN) General Assembly's High Level meeting on AMR in 2016. During that a temporary committee, inter agency coordination group (IACG) [1] was formulated, under chairmanship Director World Health Organization (DG-WHO) and UN Deputy Secretary General. Carbapenem-resistant organisms have become major healthcare-associated pathogens and are responsible for significant morbidity mortality worldwide. This case-series describes our experience with ceftazidime–avibactam in the treatment of six cases carbapenem-resistant King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After trying various combinations antibiotic therapies without improvement, were treated ceftazidime–avibactam. Five achieved complete cure, both clinically microbiologically.
One common strategy for governments to tackle the non-communicable disease (NCD) epidemic is front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labeling. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) considering implementing a new FOP label that based on either France’s Nutri-Score (NS), which labels all foods (A = healthiest E least healthy) overall nutritional quality, or Chilean warning (WL) approach, identifies avoid select characteristics. Using fully functional online grocery store, this study aimed test these two...

We describe isolation infectious MERS-CoV the upper tract 27-year-old female in Saudi Arabia 15 days after onset.
Background: Adverse safety events in healthcare are of great concern, and despite an increasing focus on the prevention error harm mitigation, epidemiology remains incomplete. Methods: We performed analysis all reported academic medical center using a voluntary incident reporting surveillance system for patient safety. Safety were classified as: serious (reached resulted moderate to severe or death); precursor minimal no detectable harm); near miss (did not reach patient). Results: During...
The prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) has been increasing in Saudi Arabia. Our objective was to estimate the effect NCDs on direct medical costs and workforce productivity Arabia. To costs, we estimated unit cost treating 10 NCDs, then multiplied by disease summed across diseases. To losses, gross domestic product per person labour force loss from each NCD NCD.We annual 11.8 billion international dollars (Int$) for assessed (13.6% total health expenditure). We losses Int$ 75.7...

The aim of this study was describe the viral aetiology patients admitted hospitals in holy cities Makkah and Madinah during 2022 peri-Hajj period. This is a retrospective analysis with SARI. Patients were tested multiplex polymerase chain reaction for most common aetiologies. In total, 179 cases SARI identified Of these, 101 (56.4%) males, 78 (43.6%) females, Saudi. mean age 58.60 years...
