Chitosan (CS) has limited capacity for Ca(II)-adsorption abilities. Here, glutaraldehyde cross-linked chitosan (GLA-CTS) and maltose (MAL-CTS) were obtained by physical chemical modifications to improve the adsorption of Ca2+. By comparing kinetics isotherm, capabilities GLA-CTS MAL-CTS reached 112.27 ± 2.63 240.38 31.88 mg/g in presence concentrations 3000 mg/L Ca2+, which about 2.1 4.6 times than CS. The structures resulting calcified complexes profiled SEM, XPS, FT-IR, 13C NMR. Unlike...

Among different insects, the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) has been bred in industrial scale successfully as a potential resource of protein, lipid, and antibacterial peptide. However, application its chitosan not studied widely, which hindered sufficient utilization P. americana. In this paper, from americana was separated, characterized, processed into film (PaCSF) to examine being applied food packaging. As results characterizations showed, PaCSF similar shrimp (SCSF)....

Insects have a long history of being used in medicine, with clear primary and secondary functions less side effects, the study exploitation medicinal insects received increasing attention. gut microbiota their metabolites play an important role protecting hosts from other potentially harmful microbes, providing nutrients, promoting digestion degradation, regulating growth metabolism hosts. However, there are still few studies linking values microbes. In this study, we focused on specific...

Oxidative stress and obesity are critical risk factors for metabolic syndrome. The consumption of functional food ingredients can a viable strategy to alleviate oxidative obesity. In this study, the hydro-ethanolic extract edible insect Polyrhachis vicina was prepared its bioactive components were characterized. total polyphenol contents, flavonoid antioxidant pancreatic lipase (PL) inhibitory activities determined in vitro . total, 60 tentatively identified P. extract. Polyphenols fatty...

Limitations of enzyme production and activity pose a challenge for efficient degradation chitinaceous wastes. To solve this problem, we engineered system high-yielding extracellular secretion chitinase A1 from Bacillus circulans (BcChiA1) in B. subtilis. Furthermore, an innovative high-throughput screening method based on colloidal chitin stained with Remazol Brilliant Blue R (CC-RBB) was established used to identify three mutants improved activity: Y10A/R301A/E327A (Mu1), Y10A/D81A/E327A...

Abstract Background The black soldier fly ( Hermetia illucens ) has significant economic potential. larvae can be used in financially viable waste management systems, as they are voracious feeders able to efficiently convert low-quality into valuable biomass. However, most studies on H. recent decades have focused optimizing their breeding and bioconversion conditions, while information biology is limited. Methods About 200 fifth instar well-fed were sacrificed this work. liquid...

Traditional food packaging films made of plastic have caused serious damage to the environment. Chitosan film is a potential substitute but it weak in antioxidant activity. In this study, extract and chitosan from American cockroach were combined produce new environment-friendly for packaging. The was easily degraded by water, avoiding accumulation addition improved activity did not weaken its efficient antibacterial practical application, packaged protected fast decay oxidation 15 days 48...
