The recognition that Europe's overseas expansion bred competing colonial empires—in contrast to the more monolithic growth of a Rome or China—has long alerted historians opportunities for their comparative assessment, even as range expertise required has rendered this approach preached than practiced. Sir John Elliott's long-awaited study, nearly two decades in making, takes on task with grace and skill. A renowned historian peninsular Spain, Elliott sets limits his voyage into wider...
'A very useful contribution to the evaluation literature. The authors have attempted (quite successfully) describe, by means of five case studies, how data is utilized and evaluators conduct their evaluations during total process from design implementation final report.' -- Choice, December 1979
The literature on police officers’ job satisfaction to date has focused primarily individual demographic characteristics, while a few recent studies have demonstrated that task characteristics are principal source of satisfaction. present study expanded this prior research by simultaneously analyzing three dimensions correlates satisfaction: and organizational environment characteristics. This was the first such include dimension in officer analysis survey data from sample patrol officers 11...
It has been suggested that the police tend to respond unusual behaviors of mentally disordered individuals with coercive tactics should be reserved for criminal offenders, such as arrest. Although recent research tested, and rejected, this perspective regarding arrest decisions, present study investigated most form authority, use force. Using officer self-report data from two municipal law enforcement agencies, whether suspects were more likely than nondisordered receive physical force...
Measurements of ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$p elastic differential cross sections have been made at seven incident pion energies from 66.8 to 138.8 MeV. These measurements statistical accuracy 1.5--3.3?for ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ and 2.7--19.0?for ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$. The absolute normalization uncertainties are 1.2--2.5?for 1.2--3.2?for Extensive tests were ensure that systematic errors properly evaluated.
Pion absorption in $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ was studied at ${T}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}$=62.5 and 82.8 MeV using nucleon-nucleon coincidences. For ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ on proton-neutron pairs the differential cross section is same as that for ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$+d\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p+p except an increase by a factor of about 1.5. ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ proton-proton pair, asymmetric 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}, indicating possible isospin mixing. The total...
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine individual‐level and community‐level models citizen satisfaction with the police particular focus on effects race community context.
Abstract A number of soybean ( Glycine max (L.) Merr.) seed vigor tests are available through testing laboratories for use by producers and farmers. In order to determine if these provide more information on field performance than the standard warm germination test, lots differing in quality were planted different environments at a constant seeding rate (350,000 seeds/ha) evaluated percent emergence, final stand maturity, grain yield. Several tests, including test (also strong seedlings...
Employee organizational commitment provides positive outcomes for any organization, including law enforcement agencies. Although characteristics such as supervisor feedback and support have a strong influence on increasing in other sorts of organizations, the police environment is unique can hamper facilitation these characteristics. The present study used sample officers to test perceived officer commitment, net organizational, job characteristic, personal characteristic influences....
We evaluated the Fatal Encounters (FE) database as an open-source surveillance system for tracking police-related deaths (PRDs).We compared coverage of FE data to several known government sources and police homicide data. also replicated incident selection from a recent review National Violent Death Reporting System.FE collected on n = 23,578 PRDs 2000-2017. A pilot study ongoing integration suggest greater than extant sets. Advantages include circumstance death specificity, geo-locations,...
The most frequent type of citizen complaint filed against police officers involves how the officer uses interpersonal communication. common context police‐citizen contact is traffic stop, and verbal judo widely used training program in communication intended to reduce complaints improve cooperation. However, does meet expectations for appropriate stop behavior? In order determine what behaviors citizens view as during stops, a sample 245 college students were surveyed about their preferences...
Angular distributions of differential cross sections were measured for the first time pion absorption on a $T=1$, $S=0$ nucleon pair and $T=0$, $S=1$ in $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ nucleus. A large isospin dependence is observed sections. The ratio $\frac{\ensuremath{\sigma}(^{3}\mathrm{He}({\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+},2p))}{\ensuremath{\sigma}(^{3}\mathrm{He}({\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}},pn))}$ 15.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.2. results show evidence an isoscalar component final state reaction...
This interpretation of early American history argues that 1676 was a cataclysmic year Indian resurrection and civil war in America, which actually postponed independence for 100 years.
Differential cross sections for 37.5-MeV ($^{3}\mathrm{He}$, $t$) data have been measured the Ni isotopes. The are analyzed using a coupled-channels formalism with both macroscopic and microscopic models interaction. distorted-wave Born approximation, however, is found to be reasonable approximation. quasielastic scattering (i.e., excitation of state in Cu which analog target ground state) adequately explained by either model yields expected $N\ensuremath{-}Z$ isotopic dependence. A...
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to use expectancy motivation theory test the influence organizational work environment on aggregate patrol officer arrest activity with regard domestic violence incidents. Design/methodology/approach According motivational theory, frequency an individual officer's arrests at incidents should be explained by expectation make arrests, capability do so, opportunity and likelihood that these will rewarded. present study used survey data from a sample 401...
Recent research on racial profiling has renewed attention how police officers develop suspicions about citizens, and these influence the official behavior of police. In order to guide current research, a review wealth existing qualitative quantitative this topic is necessary. This literature examines international in psychology, sociology, criminology officer development suspicion. It also lays out framework for organizing findings with four broad methods suspicion development: stereotypical...
Police officers are afforded a high degree of discretion in the exercise their authority, and control this is an important issue. While it assumed that individual officer attitudes preferences shape discretionary activity, these also members paramilitary organization with leaders over them. The present study explored influence both management influences to explain variation domestic violence arrest rates. Hierarchical linear modeling was used sample 311 patrol 61 supervisors from 23...
In particle transfer reactions, the effects of strong coupling in initial and final nuclei can be important, but an exact evaluation is exceedingly complicated numerically. The approximate procedure Iano Austern modified this work so that only change from standard distorted-wave Born-approximation (DWBA) expression a modification optical potentials for bombarding exiting particles. compared with Iano-Austern theory equivalent results are obtained $^{24}\mathrm{Mg}(d,p)^{25}\mathrm{Mg}$ test...
