Environmental factors can influence obesity by epigenetic mechanisms. Adipose tissue plays a key role in obesity-related metabolic dysfunction, and gastric bypass provides model to investigate weight loss humans. Here, we DNA methylation adipose from obese women before after significant loss. In total, 485,577 CpG sites were profiled matched, loss, subcutaneous omental tissue. A paired analysis revealed differential greater proportion of CpGs are hypermethylated increased is observed the 3'...
To investigate whether the electroencephalographic (EEG) responses to slaughter by ventral-neck incision without prior stunning may be perceived as painful in halothane-anaesthetised calves.Fourteen Angus steers were minimally anaesthetised with halothane, using an established anaesthesia protocol. EEG indices recorded bilaterally for 5 minutes and following incision. A single was made ventral aspect of neck, severing all tissues vertebral column including major blood vessels supplying...
The increasing incidence of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children is a growing global concern. It known that genetic and environmental factors contribute to childhood T1D. An optimal model predict the development T1D using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) would aid medical practitioners developing intervention plans. This paper for first time has built risk identify its significant KPIs aged (0-14) Saudi Arabia. Machine learning methods, namely Logistic Regression, Random Forest, Support Vector...
Gyrification is a shared phenotype of brain development across many species. The identification human- and primate-specific genes topic great research interest to uncover the genetic mechanisms that drive human gyrification. Here we investigated transcript variant FOXM1 with unique ninth exon proposed have crucial role in primate Through comprehensive bioinformatic analyses utilising available deposited sequencing data, aimed determine degree conservation 9 wide range species, particular...
Diabetes mellitus stands out as one of the most prevalent chronic conditions affecting pediatric populations. The escalating incidence childhood type 1 diabetes (T1D) globally is a matter increasing concern. Developing an effective model that leverages Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to understand T1D in children would significantly assist medical practitioners devising targeted monitoring strategies. This study models number monthly new cases and its associated KPIs among aged 0 14 Saudi...
Primary hyperlipoproteinaemia (hyperchylomicronaemia) with a slight increase in very low density lipoprotein) is described 20 cats. Fasting hyperlipaemia, lipaemia retinalis and peripheral neuropathies were the most frequently detected clinical signs. The disease thought to be inherited as an autosomal recessive trait but exact mode of inheritance has not been determined. Affected cats showed reduced lipoprotein lipase activity measured after heparin activation compared response normal...
Dogs with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) IIIA were bred within an experimental colony. As part of characterizing them as a model for testing therapeutic strategies the analogous disease children, pathologic study was undertaken. By histology, there variably stained storage cytosomes neurons, including many that gangliosides. On ultrastructure examination, these contained either moderately dense granular material, tentatively interpreted precipitated glycosaminoglycan; variety multilaminar...
Abstract Context. Feral cats (Felis catus) pose a significant threat to Australia’s native species and feral cat control is, therefore, an important component of threatened management policy. Threatened Species Strategy articulates defined targets for control. Yet, currently, little is known about who engaged in Australia, what motivates them, at rate they are removing from the environment. Aims. We aim document engaging how many remove estimate number killed single year. Furthermore, we...
Abstract Seventy-nine wild hedgehogs from the Wairarapa, an area of New Zealand in which bovine tuberculosis is endemic, were examined for lesions suggestive tuberculosis. Sixteen animals with suspicious had samples submitted culture. Mycobacterium bovis was recovered four gross pulmonary lesions. The and histopathological appearance are described significance discussed light previously reported experimental captive animal infections. It likely that infection arose scavenging behaviour...
Summary A myopathy associated with myotonia was observed in three related Chow dogs. The clinical signs were first noticed at 2 to 3 months of age. They included muscle spasm and stiffness gait which decreased severity exercise. Electromyographic findings the demonstration a percussion dimple confirmed presence myotonia. Dystrophic changes biopsies but histochemical techniques did not demonstrate fibre type changes. An inherited aetiology suspected confirmed.
Objective Adipose tissue plays a key role in obesity‐related metabolic dysfunction. MicroRNA (miRNA) are gene regulatory molecules involved intercellular and inter‐organ communication. It was hypothesized that miRNA levels adipose would change after gastric bypass surgery this provide insights into their obesity‐induced dysregulation. Methods profiling (Affymetrix GeneChip 2.0 Array) of omental subcutaneous ( n = 15 females) before performed. Results One thirteen miRNAs were significantly...
Schwannomas were diagnosed in twelve dogs and five cats at Massey University Small Animal Clinic Hospital over a 15-year period (1977-92). A further two feline cases reported the Batchelar Health Laboratory. In six dogs, tumour involved nerves of brachial plexus. Clinical signs observed these forelimb lameness, muscle wasting pain on movement affected limb or neck. Hindlimb paresis was dogs. Surgical excision plexus attempted one dog, leading to an 8-month remission signs. sacral nerves,...
Abstract Omphalophlebitis, generally referred to as navel ill, is a common post-mortem meat inspection finding in very young calves slaughtered New Zealand, and gross pathological, histopatho-logical bacteriological evaluation of 147 carcasses condemned for this condition at routine was undertaken. Localised lesions restricted the umbilicus alone were present 29.9% cases. The majority cases included pathological change umbilical vessels other tissue sites beyond umbilicus. Most hepatic nodes...
Meckel syndrome (MKS) is an inherited autosomal recessive hepatorenal fibrocystic syndrome, caused by mutations in TMEM67, characterized occipital encephalocoele, renal cysts, hepatic fibrosis, and polydactyly. Here we describe ovine model of MKS, with kidney liver abnormalities, without polydactyly or encephalocoele. Homozygous missense p.(Ile681Asn; Ile687Ser) identified TMEM67 were pathogenic zebrafish phenotype rescue assays. Meckelin protein was expressed affected unaffected epithelial...
The most common locations of tumours in 22 sheep with malignant lymphoma were the lymph nodes (19 sheep), spleen (14), liver (13), kidney (10), small intestine (9) and heart (9). distribution lesions could be classified as multicentric (14 sheep, alimentary (6), skin (1) thymic (1). Histological examination lymphomas from 40 showed there three reticulum cell sarcomas, 37 lymphosarcomas. lymphosarcomas further on basis cytological features lymphoblastoid, lymphocytic/prolymphocytic,...

In particular, we aim to explore prescribing first‐line systemic treatment, practice an initial watchful‐waiting approach, use treatments elderly patients. Subjects/Patients Methods Patients with undergoing between 2006 2012 were identified from four academic hospitals V ictoria ustralian C apital T erritory. Demographic,...
The rising incidence of type 1 diabetes (T1D) among children is an increasing concern globally. A reliable estimate the age at onset T1D in would facilitate intervention plans for medical practitioners to reduce problems with delayed diagnosis T1D. This paper has utilised Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Random Forest (RF) model predict Saudi Arabia (S.A.) which ranked as 7th highest number 5th world rate De-identified data between (2010-2020) from three...
A progressive neurological disease affecting twenty-two young adult dogs of smaller breeds is reported. The was most often acute in onset and the signs included cervical pain, seizures, behavioural changes, ataxia, head tilt, muscle tremor paresis. lesions were those a disseminated granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis which perivascular cuffs macrophages lymphoid cells predominant finding. Severe seen cerebral white matter although brain stem, mid-brain spinal cord also commonly affected.
ABSTRACT A 1,1/2 year‐old neutered male cat was presented with a non pruritic skin disease. Pale plaque‐like lesions were present on the face, head, axillae and ventral abdomen. Hypercholesterolaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia, hyperglycaemia glycosuria all histopathological examination confirmed that xanthomata. lipoprotein profile revealed an increase in chylomicrons, very low density lipoproteins lipoproteins, post heparin lipase activity present. diagnosis of diabetes mellitus made following...
