Abstract Acoustic telemetry (AT) has emerged as a valuable tool for monitoring aquatic animals in both European inland and marine waters over the past two decades. The Tracking Network (ETN) initiative played pivotal role promoting collaboration among AT researchers Europe led to significant increase number of tagged observed transboundary waters. While benefits decision‐making delivers essential data management bodies, its potential mechanisms yet be fully harnessed. We reviewed existing...
Artificial reef deployment in Turkish waters and results from monitoring studies are described. The first known project with 10 old trolley-bus bodies was 1989, presently there six ongoing projects which reinforced concrete modules of five different designs being used. main aims are: (1) to protect fish-spawning nursery areas illegal trawling; (2) create new sites for recreational fishing diving; (3) small-scale artisanal fisheries damage caused by (4) conduct scientific experiments. Most...
This study aimed to determine the survival rates of three fish species, brown comber (Serranus hepatus), black goby (Gobius niger) and annular seabream (Diplodus annularis), after their escape from a 40 mm stretched diamond mesh polyethylene (PE) codend. Experiments were carried out in eastern Mediterranean September 2007 using conventional bottom trawl with 600 meshes around mouth. A constant 15 min towing duration was used for all hauls. The speed varied between 2.0 2.5 knots. Codend...
This paper presents the results of an application a new ultrasonic telemetry method for brown meagre, Sciaena umbra inhabiting artificial reef (AR) in northern Aegean Sea. The objective study was use Vemco Positioning System (VPS) methods to determine short-term movements from August September 2013 four meagre site. All S. disappeared VPS detection range after variable number days (1–19 continuous monitoring). It is assumed that they did not colonize site and left area. From methodological...
This study was performed off the southern coast of Yassıca Island in Izmir Bay on Turkish Aegean Sea to investigate mortality red mullet (Mullus barbatus, Mullidae) escaping through 40-mm square-mesh and 44- 50-mm diamond-mesh codends attached a conventional demersal trawl net. In total, 48 replicate experimental hauls were summer winter 2011 2012. Mean escape for all (33.2%±6.51) significantly higher (p
This review has been prepared by Ege University, a partner of the CREAM Project, on basis data and information relevant to Turkish fisheries. To this end, belonging total 31 sources produced from 19 fisheries studies were collected, investigated, analysed. The are heterogeneous obtained scientific studies, national international projects, regulations, management tools, marine protected areas no-take zones, all which may be ecosystem approach Analysis these shows that few have potential serve...
Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828) is an aquatic invader and disruptive predator for marine ecosystems. A single lionfish was photographed sampled in March 2021 during a scientific survey at 36 m depth Karaburun/İzmir Bay. In this study presents update on the lionfish's northward progression Aegean Sea.
Deployment depth of artificial reefs is one the most important issue in planning stage and future success. Most studies aimed at determination fish community around were conducted mainly 10-25m depths Mediterranean Aegean Sea. The goals this study are determine compare structure which deployed 20, 30 40 m depths. Underwater visual census technique was used to species, number individual size estimation. There no statistical difference (p>0.05) mean biomass between But species significantly...
This study was carried out in the Gulf of 0zmir Aegean Sea between June 2006 and November 2008. The purpose creation a new concept artificial reef for Octopus vulgaris, with view to establishing sites be used fisheries management this species (MPA, NTZ or fishing areas). First, main characteristics natural octopus nests were recorded (entrance width, length, etc.) by divers. These construction octahedral blocks. blocks made reinforced concrete, shape like that an inverted pyramid, upper...
In recent years, circle hooks have been encouraged as an alternative to traditional J-hooks in pelagic longline fisheries minimize by-catch mortality and injury sea turtles other marine wildlife. Prior this study, had not used by domestic commercial longliners Turkey. The main objective of the study was evaluate efficiency kahle hook comparing with J-style baited sardine (Sardina pilchardus) fishery Aegean coast Turkey (Kuşadası Bay).We conventional (Mustad 2315DT-4/0) (Eagle Claw142A-6/0)...
Two steel spar buoys were constructed and moored in 50 100 m deep of water the Aegean Sea to support recreational fisheries. The first FAD was deployed at coordinates 38°01´48´´N 26°58´02´´E a distance 3 nautical miles from shoreline. other 1.1 shoreline 38°03´11´´N; 26°59´01´´E. An anchor (1.2x1.2x0.8 m3) weighing approximate 2.76 metric ton, made reinforced concrete, used hold 1.5 ton. Hardware connections FADs, ropes, mooring calculation design made. interaction between forces wave...
Abstract The study was conducted between July 2018 and May 2020 to compare seasonal changes in growth parameters of the Mediterranean mussel ( Mytilus galloprovincialis ) at different depths two areas Northeastern Sea (Aegean Sea). In a preliminary study, mussels were placed cages an artificial reef (AR – shipwreck) natural (NR). Temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen determined seasonally both sites depth 37 m (deepwater) 25 (midwater). Linear increases length width AR site recorded,...
