The ideal intraocular lens in cases of aphakia without capsular support is debated. Choices include anterior chamber lenses, iris- or scleral-sutured and iris-claw lenses. Our aim was to report our long-term evaluation the use retropupillary implantation Artisan (RPICIOL) several aphakic conditions support. A retrospective analysis consecutive 320 eyes patients (222 males 98 females) which we performed RPICIOL post-traumatic (141 eyes, group 1), post-cataract surgery (122 2), penetrating...

Backgroud: Alzheimer disease is an age-related severe neurodegenerative pathology. The level of the third endogenous gas, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), decreased in brain Alzheimer's (AD) patients compared with age-matched normal individuals; also, plasma H2S levels are negatively correlated severity AD. Recently, we have demonstrated that systemic injections neuroprotective early phase preclinical AD.This study focuses on possible neuroprotection a chronic treatment donor and sulfurous water...

Background: The association between HAART and lipodystrophy is well established, but pathogenesis still poorly understood. Drugs, in particular protease inhibitors, accumulate adipose tissue affecting adipocyte physiology gene expression by several mechanisms. Recent studies have identified autophagy as another process affected these classes of drugs, no been performed cells. Methods: SW872 preadipocytic human cell line was used to evaluate changes induced amprenavir (APV), ritonavir (RTV),...

The age-related trend values and the normal intraocular pressure (IOP) increase curve from birth through 16th year of life were studied in 460 subjects with a noncontact tonometer (Keeler Pulsair, Keeler, Ltd, Windsor, Berks, UK). Much lower than adults recorded up to age 3 or 4 years. This finding leads us believe that treatment infantile glaucoma IOP should be kept within physiologic levels, an attempt prevent visual field loss optic atrophy.
