Electrolyte motion induced salt inhomogeneity (EMSI): during cycling, electrolyte moves into and out of the jelly roll, which leads to a lasting in-plane LiPF 6 concentration gradient, possibly causing secondary effects like localized lithium plating.

The hexagonal polymorph of Ba$_3$Tb(BO$_3$)$_3$ contains Tb$^{3+}$ ions on a quasi-2D triangular lattice, resulting in geometric magnetic frustration. Powder samples have been investigated using specific heat, powder neutron diffraction (PND), inelastic scattering (INS) and muon-spin relaxation spectroscopy ($\mu$SR). No long-range ordering is observed down to the lowest measured temperatures 75 mK PND heat data 1.5 K $\mu$SR data. Modelling INS spectrum point charge model suggests that...

Abstract This study investigates the impact of electrolyte amount on electrical performance at beginning life in high energy cylindrical lithium-ion batteries. We investigate 4695 prototype cells with varying pore filling ratios (PFRs), defined as ratio volume to within anode, cathode, and separator. The PFR ranges from roughly half-filled completely filled additional free electrolyte. It is found that resistance remain constant long PFR100 (at 100% SoC) > 1.00. As soon < 1.00, cell...

The electrification of the transport sector places ever-increasing demands on energy density, fast-charging performance, and lifetime lithium-ion cells. In this study, we investigate high density (~ 800 Wh/L) prototype cylindrical 4695 cells with two different (“low” “high”) electrolyte amounts. Using pore volume calculations, computer tomography moment inertia measurements, find that change active material causes motion into out jelly roll upon cycling in cells, while no occurs low At same...

We investigate magnesium–iron pyroborate MgFeB2O5 as a potential cathode material for rechargeable magnesium-ion batteries. Synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy confirm its successful synthesis iron stabilization in the high-spin Fe(II) state. Initial electrochemical testing against lithium metal anode yields first charge capacity near theoretical value (147.45 mAh·g–1), suggesting promising candidate. However, multimodal analyses, including scanning electron...

Below its Jahn--Teller transition temperature, $T_\mathrm{JT}$, NaNiO$_2$ has a monoclinic layered structure consisting of alternating layers edge-sharing NaO$_6$ and Jahn-Teller-distorted NiO$_6$ octahedra. Above $T_\mathrm{JT}$ where is rhombohedral, diffraction measurements show the absence cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion, accompanied by an increase in unit cell volume. Using neutron total scattering, solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), extended X-ray absorption fine (EXAFS)...
