Abstract. An intensive aerosol and gases campaign was performed at Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta region over Eastern China from late March to early June 2009. This study provided a complementary picture of typical haze types formation mechanisms megacities by using synergy ground-based monitoring, satellite lidar observations. During whole period, several extreme low visibility periods were observed with distinct characteristics, three identified, i.e. secondary inorganic pollution,...
An intensive spring aerosol sampling campaign over northwestern and northern China a megacity in eastern was conducted the of 2007 to investigate mixing Asian dust with pollution during its long‐range transport. On basis results three sites near source regions (Tazhong, Yulin, Duolun) metropolitan city (Shanghai), sources, i.e., western high‐Ca Taklimakan Desert, northeastern low‐Ca Mongolia Gobi, were identified on air mass trajectories elemental tracer analysis (e.g., Ca/Al, SO 4 2− /S, Ca...
Abstract. The Chinese Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. peak transport season (spring travel rush) provides a unique opportunity for investigating impact human activity on air quality megacities. Emission sources are varied and fluctuate greatly before, during after Festival. Increased vehicular emissions "spring rush" before 2009 resulted high level pollutants NOx (270 μg m−3), CO (2572 black carbon (BC) (8.5 m−3) extremely low single scattering...
Abstract. Growing shipping activities in port areas have generated negative impacts on climate, air quality and human health. To better evaluate the environmental impact of ship emissions, an experimental characterization pollution from ships was conducted Shanghai Port summer 2016. The ambient concentrations gaseous NO, NO2, SO2 O3 addition to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), particle size distributions chemical composition individual particles emission were continuously monitored for 3...
Abstract. Three field campaigns were conducted before, during, and after the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, aiming to understand response of secondary aerosol components both control measures human activities. In spring, PM2.5 (particulate matter) averaged 34.5 ± 20.9 μg m−3 with a severe pollution episode influenced by floating dust originating from northwestern China on 26–28 April, right before opening expo. With approaching expo significant increasing trend SNA (SO42−, NO3−, NH4+)...
Abstract. The fine particles (PM2.5) in China have decreased significantly recent years as a result of the implementation Chinese Clean Air Action Plan since 2013, while O3 pollution is getting worse, especially megacities such Beijing and Shanghai. Better understanding elevated its response to emission change important for developing an effective control strategy future. In this study, we analyze significant increasing trend daily maximum concentration from 2006 2015 megacity Shanghai with...
Childhood lead (Pb) poisoning remains a global issue, especially in industrial areas. In this study, 115 children with average age 5.7 years were recruited as either patient diagnosed Pb or controls at Xinhua Hospital China. The subjects' bone was measured K-shell X-ray fluorescence (KXRF) and portable (XRF) system. A significant correlation between KXRF blood XRF measurements observed. half-life of blood-lead calculated to be 9.96 ± 3.92 d. Our results indicate that is useful biomarker for children.
TSP and PM 2.5 aerosol particles were synchronously sampled at six sites along the transport pathway of dust storms from desert regions to coastal areas in spring 2004 investigate regional characteristics Asian its impact on chemistry over northern China. Factor analysis daily 10 concentrations 17 cities showed that China can be basically divided into five regions: (1) Northern Dust Region, (2) Northeastern (3) Western (4) Inland Passing (5) Coastal Region. Region was characterized by a high...
Abstract. Speciated atmospheric mercury including gaseous elemental (GEM), oxidized (GOM), and particulate-bound (PBM) were measured continuously for a 1-year period at suburban site, representing regional transport intersection zone, in east China. Annual mean concentrations of GEM, PBM, GOM reached 2.77 ng m−3, 60.8 pg 82.1 respectively. GEM elevated all the seasons except autumn. High related to winds from south, southwest, north measurement site. Combining analysis results using various...
Abstract. Ammonia in the atmosphere is essential for formation of fine particles that impact air quality and climate. Despite extensive prior research to disentangle relationship between ammonia haze pollution, role high ammonia-emitting regions still not well understood. Aiming better understand secondary inorganic aerosol (sulfate, nitrate, ammonium – SNA) mechanisms under high-ammonia conditions, 1-year hourly measurement water-soluble species (gas particle) was conducted at a rural...
Abstract To investigate the association of air pollution with maternal stress during pregnancy, we enrolled 1,931 women mid-to-late pregnancy in Shanghai 2010. The “Life-Event Scale for Pregnant Women” and “Symptom-Checklist-90-Revised Scale” (SCL-90-R) were used to evaluate life event emotional stress, respectively. Air data collected each district where pregnant lived pregnancy. We associated ambient scores using multivariable logistic regression models. After adjusting relevant...
Ground-level ozone (O3) pollution is still one of the priorities and challenges for air control in Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region China. Understanding relationship O3 with its precursors contributions different sources formation essential development an strategy. This study analyzed sensitivity to using a box model based on online observations O3, non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) at urban site suburban Shanghai July 2017. Anthropogenic NMHCs...
Measurement of bone strontium (Sr) is vital to determining the effectiveness Sr supplementation, which commonly used for treatment osteoporosis. Previous technology uses radioisotope sources and bulky equipment measure Sr. This study demonstrates portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) measurement validates it using data from a population 238 children. We identified correlations between age in our participants.
