Abstract Objective To examine the effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) gene–transduced chondrocytes on repair articular cartilage defects. Methods LacZ gene or bFGF was transduced into primary isolated rabbit with use a recombinant adeno‐associated virus (AAV) vector. These gene‐transduced were embedded in collagen gel and transplanted full‐thickness defect patellar groove rabbit. The efficiency transduction assessed according to percentage LacZ‐positive cells among total number...
Prospective analysis of sagittal vertical axis (SVA) on lateral spine radiographs using 3 different arm positions. To examine whether fists-on-clavicles position represents a functional standing position.Radiographic visualization spinal and pelvic morphology is difficult during relaxed because interference from the arms; however, with arms forward-flexed results in negative shift SVA. The was proposed to provide more profile adequate spine. No existing study compares SVA between...
In Brief Study Design. Subjective ratings of discomfort were compared between a fixed lumbar support and continuous passive motion (CPM) device. Objective. To compare with CPM device during prolonged sitting. Summary Background Data. prevent low back pain sitting, an inflatable has been developed. There are no studies that static using the same pressure in cushions. Methods. A total 31 male volunteers without sat chair for 2-hour period on each 3 consecutive days under randomized test...
Abstract In inflammatory arthritis, there is evidence indicating that the affected tissues produce large amounts of oxygen-free radicals and NO. Herein, we examine biologic effects exposure IgG to hypochlorous acid (HOCl) peroxynitrite (ONOO). The concentrations modified by chlorination nitrosation were measured in synovial fluids from noninflammatory arthritis. Human was exposed increasing HOCl ONOO, resulting products tested for complement component binding; binding FcγRI; activation...
Analysis of sagittal vertical axis (SVA) on lateral spine radiographs in healthy normal volunteers. To determine the optimal arm position with smallest negative shift SVA.Radiographic visualization spinal and pelvic morphology is difficult participant a relaxed standing because interference from arms. Standing shoulder flexion (SF) results SVA. The fists-on-clavicles (FC) reduces SVA seen SF, but only by 25%. best to produce has yet be determined. The was measured using 21 participants. Five...
Atlantal lateral mass screw fixation is an increasingly popular procedure that viewed as less demanding—and with lower risk of vertebral artery (VA) injury—than atlantoaxial transarticular fixation.2,3,5 We report a case in which the VA was injured during atlantal procedure, however, to draw attention this unusual complication. Of 10 patients whom technique used between 2003 and 2004, we documented one injury 76-year-old woman who suffered from depression. She sustained Levine‐Edwards 4 Type...
A retrospective evaluation of diffusion-weighted imaging, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps, and T2-weighted images in patients with cervical compression myelopathy. To correlate high signal intensity on ADC maps to neurologic severity radiologic spinal cord compression.Previous studies indicated that the map was more sensitive detection compressive myelopathy than imaging. The relationship has not been previously published. In 100 or without myelopathy, magnetic resonance appearance...
Neuromuscular scoliosis is difficult to treat with braces because the collapsing trunk spinal deformity cannot tolerate hard materials used for most orthoses. The dynamic brace (DSB) a novel three-point support in Japan. We present our preliminary findings of 52 pediatric patients neuromuscular treated using DSBs. A positive correlation was found between Cobb angle at initiation bracing and degree progression. concluded that DSBs may be effective early-stage scoliosis. also DSB improved...
A retrospective case study of the use intrapedicular partial pediculectomy (IPPP) to treat lumbar foraminal stenosis. To evaluate clinical results stenosis treated with IPPP.There is no gold standard for surgical treatment stenosis, which occurs in 8% cases degenerative diseases.A total 26 patients who were followed up a minimum 2 years after IPPP included this study. The group consisted 20 men and 6 women an average age at surgery 63.3 (range: 42 83) mean follow-up 5.5 11). affected levels...
We have shown that polymorphonuclear neutrophils mediate the covalent cross-linking of immune complexes (ICs) using H2O2 and myeloperoxidase (MPO). Moreover, activated superficial chondrocytes produce large amounts nitric oxide (NO), suggesting high concentrations these radicals may interact at cartilage surface in rheumatoid arthritis. describe effects interaction NO its decay product, NO2, with MPO on IC cross-linking. Cross-linking was measured by resistance to guanidine extraction...
Abstract Objective To assess the value of joint fluid analysis for determining cartilage degradation and prognosis in spontaneous osteonecrosis (ON) knee. Methods Synovial was obtained from 30 knees with ON (26 medial femoral condyles, 4 tibial plateaus) as well 50 compartmental osteoarthritis (OA) a control. Levels chondroitin 6‐sulfate (C6S), C4S, hyaluronic acid were measured high‐performance liquid chromatography. The lesion size, appearance articular cartilage, results magnetic...
Introduction: Patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) develop compensatory mechanisms. The Cobb angle between T4 and T12 has been used as a standard to define thoracic kyphosis (TK) because radiological evaluation is difficult in upper region. mechanism not sufficiently explored, focal compensation remains poorly understood. This study aimed determine sagittal features of ASD patients.
The purpose of the study reported in this article was to investigate effects synthetic lipid A on expression adhesion molecule CD44 bovine articular chondrocytes. Full-thickness cartilage dissected from carpometacarpal joints 24 cows. Cartilage pieces were enzymatically digested liberate chondrocytes incubated presence suspension culture. Cell characteristics and binding monoclonal antihuman antibodies assessed with a flow cytometer. mRNA detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain...
