The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Dual-Frequency Radar (DPR) (Ku- and Ka-band, or 14 35 GHz) provides the capability to resolve precipitation structure under moderate heavy conditions. In this manuscript, use of near-coincident observations between GPM CloudSat Profiling (CPR) (W-band, 94 are demonstrated extend representing light rain cold-season from DPR passive microwave constellation sensors. These unique triple-frequency data have opened up applications related precipitation,...
This article studies changes in microwave signals of oceanic snowfall response to the formation snow-covered sea ice using active and passive coincident data from radar radiometer onboard CloudSat global precipitation measurement satellites. Using reanalysis liquid water path as well satellite retrievals snow-cover depth, spectral regions are determined over which signatures likely be obscured or falsely detected. Abstract This study assesses the level-2 snowfall retrieval results from 11 passive microwave radiometers generated by version 5 Goddard profiling algorithm (GPROF) relative to two spaceborne radars: CloudSat Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) and Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Ku-band (KuPR). These include six conical scanning [Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for Earth Observing System (AMSR-E), its successor sensor AMSR2, GPM Imager (GMI), three Special Sensor Imager/Sounders...
