Our study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic results of endoscopic N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate injection (EBC) and balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) in patients with gastric variceal hemorrhage (GVH) and/or high-risk varices (GV).Twenty-seven GVH GV (>or= 5 mm diameter, those red spots, a Child-Pugh grading B or C liver cirrhosis) who were treated either EBC BRTO from April 2005 December 2007 included our study.EBC was initially used for treatment 14 13 patients,...

To evaluate whether multidetector CT with low-dose radiation (low-dose CT) of joints can be useful when evaluating fractures. Our study included scans 398 patients, 103 shoulder cases, 109 wrist 98 pelvis cases and 88 ankle cases. There were 191 females 207 males. The CTs performed using identical voltage parameters the exception decreased (half standard dose) tube current. Low-dose standard-dose images compared regards to objective image quality, subjective evaluation quality diagnostic...

Abstract Background & Aims The relationship between cigarette smoking and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease ( NAFLD ) has been controversial. Most relevant studies have relied on self‐reported questionnaires. We aimed to elucidate the association status using an objective biomarker of tobacco exposure (urinary cotinine) questionnaire. Methods A cross‐sectional study was conducted 160 862 asymptomatic examinees who underwent abdominal ultrasonography urinary cotinine measurements April...

Several hepatic steatosis formulae have been validated in various cohorts using ultrasonography. However, none of these studies has a community-based setting the gold standard method. Thus, aim this study was to externally validate settings magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A total 1301 health checkup subjects who underwent liver fat quantification with MRI were enrolled study. Diagnostic performance assessed area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Non-alcoholic fatty...

We present the design, fabrication, and characterization results of single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) film strain gauges for potential applications as highly sensitive strain, weight, or pressure sensors on macro-scale. A batch microfabrication process was developed practical device construction packaging using spray-coated SWCNTs a conventional semiconductor process. The prototype characterized commercial metal foil gauge with tensile compressive testing binocular load cell. Our test...

Intractable bleeding from locally advanced breast carcinoma is a rare but challenging clinical problem. Given the patients' poor overall condition and palliative care status, management options are often limited. Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) emerges as potential alternative to traditional surgical or radiation-based approaches for hemorrhage control. This case report presents successful application of TAE in managing spontaneous cancer.

We report on the preparation of capacitive-type relative humidity sensors incorporating plasma-activated multi-wall carbon nanotube (p-MWCNT) electrodes and their performance compared with existing commercial technology. Highly open porous conductive electrodes, which are almost impossible to obtain conventional metal fabricated by spray-depositing MWCNT networks a polyimide layer. Oxygen plasma activation MWCNTs is also explored improve water adsorption films, introducing oxygen-containing...

Cerebral air embolism is a rare but fatal complication of central venous catheterization. Here, we report case paradoxical cerebral associated with catheterization. An 85-yr-old man underwent right internal jugular vein catheterization, and became obtunded.Brain MR imaging CT revealed acute infarction multiple bubbles on the side catheter insertion. The possibility should be considered in patients developing neurological impairment after efforts made to limit damage.

Local ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a non-surgical option that directly targets and destroys tumor cells, has advanced significantly since the 1990s. Therapies with different energy sources, such as radiofrequency ablation, microwave cryoablation, employ mechanisms to induce necrosis. The precision, safety, effectiveness of these therapies have increased advances in guiding technologies device improvements. Consequently, local become first-line treatment early-stage HCC. lack...

We present the research results of use plasma modification for fabrication carbon nanotube-based devices chemical and biological sensing. The oxygen treatment multiwalled nanotubes (MWCNTs) effectively grafts atoms onto CNT surface. For investigating impact on MWCNT-based sensor performance, three different sensors are fabricated: NH3 gas sensors, humidity immunosensors. plasma-modified MWCNTs (p-MWCNTs) exhibit a sensitivity to that is approximately twice corresponding untreated sensor....

Abstract In this work, we introduced a diblock copolymer (dBC), i.e., polystyrene‐ b ‐poly(hydroxyl ethyl acrylate) (PS‐ ‐PHEA) as compatibilizer to enhance interfacial adhesion between PI and zeolite in PI/Zeolite/dBC (1/0.1/0.05 wt%) membrane for gas separation. FT‐IR spectroscopy showed the formation of hydrogen bonding interactions carbonyl hydroxyl dBC with both zeolite.
