An efficient I2/TBHP promoted isocyanide insertion cyclization reaction for the synthesis of quinazolines-fused benzoimidazole was reported. The synthesized compounds have a unique potential to use as selective solvatochromic fluorescence probe methanol detection from other solvents, especially EtOH. Introducing simple one-step method and using more acceptable iodine molecule instead expensive transition metal catalysts are most important advantages this strategy.
