An array of nine three‐component broadband seismometers was deployed in two different configurations on Stromboli volcano. The analysis the seismic wavefield related to volcanic explosions revealed some observations which offer a completely new insight into internal dynamics These are restricted low‐frequency range below 1 Hz and underline, therefore, superiority recordings over conventional short‐period observations. Surprisingly simple wavelets indicate an initially contracting source...

We provide a database of the coseismic geological surface effects following Mw 6.5 Norcia earthquake that hit central Italy on 30 October 2016. This was one strongest seismic events to occur in Europe past thirty years, causing complex ruptures over an area >400 km2. The originated from collaboration several European teams (Open EMERGEO Working Group; about 130 researchers) coordinated by Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia. observations were collected performing detailed field...

The origin of the volcanic tremor is still under debate. Many theories have been proposed in last years, but none has yet completely accepted. In 1993, highly sensitive pressure sensors (2.175 Pa/Volt) used to monitor explosive activity at Stromboli revealed unexpected correlation between small spike‐shaped signals (1–2 Pa) and tremor. These pulses repeat regularly time with a recurrent period ca. 1 s. Video camera images allowed us correlate gas bursts occurring one active vents. striking...

Abstract Most snow avalanches occur unobserved, which becomes particularly dramatic when human lives are involved. Seismological observations can be helpful to unravel time and dynamics of unseen events, like the deadly avalanche January 18, 2017, that hit a Resort-hotel at Rigopiano in Abruzzi (Italy). Particle motion analysis spectrograms from data recorded by close seismic broadband station, calculation synthetic seismograms, as well simulation flow, allowed us construct buried alive 40...
