We report the characterization of carbon nanodots (CNDs) synthesized under mild and controlled conditions, that is, in a microwave reactor. The CNDs thus exhibit homogeneous narrowly dispersed optical properties. They are well suited as testbed for studies photophysics carbon-based nanoscopic emitters. In addition to steady-state investigations, time-correlated single-photon counting, fluorescence up-conversion, transient pump probe absorption spectroscopy were used elucidate excited-state...
The structure of graphene oxide (GO) is crucial importance for its chemical functionalization. However, the sulfur content present in GO prepared by Hummers' method has only been addressed a few authors so far. It reported that hydrolysis species takes place and stable sulfonic groups are graphite oxide. In this manuscript, contrast to earlier reports, sulfate identified covalently bound still after extensive aqueous work-up. Additionally, we exclude possibility as major work up. Our results...

Chemistry meets graphane: A Birch-type reaction using frozen water as a gentle proton source causes the exfoliation of graphite and formation hydrogenated graphene with electronically decoupled π-nanodomains. This highly functionalized displays pronounced fluorescence. As service to our authors readers, this journal provides supporting information supplied by authors. Such materials are peer reviewed may be re-organized for online delivery, but not copy-edited or typeset. Technical support...
Defined micelles: A completely uniform and structurally precise micelle spontaneously formed by exactly seven amphiphilic dendro-calixarene molecules in aqueous solution has been determined cryo-TEM 3D reconstruction techniques. The picture shows calixarene head groups, which have fit visually into the reconstructed density map of micelle. These experiments were undertaken to determine more precisely the minimum energy Td needed displace an atom from its lattice position. The resistivity increase as a function of integrated flux was measured at various electron energies. damage-production curve, thus obtained, sum two components. first contribution is due direct displacement processes. From projection this component zero, we estimate TdCu=16–19 eV and TdAu=33–36 eV. second contribution, subthreshold events, are ``soft spots''...
