Abstract The flocculation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) was studied along transects through three boreal estuaries. Besides the bulk concentration parameters, a suite DOM quality parameters were investigated, including colored (CDOM), fluorescent DOM, and molecular weight as well associated iron concentrations. We observed significant deviations from conservative mixing at low salinities (<2) in estuarine samples carbon (DOC), UV absorption ( (CDOM254) ), humic‐like fluorescence....
Abstract. The microbial degradation of dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen (DOC, DON) was studied in three Finnish boreal estuaries with contrasting land use patterns (Kiiminkijoki – natural forest peatland; Kyrönjoki agricultural; Karjaanjoki mixed/urban). Bioassays 12–18 d long durations were used 3 seasons at situ temperatures. Besides the bulk parameters, a suite matter (DOM) quality parameters also investigated, including colored DOM (CDOM), fluorescent molecular weight DOM....
Abstract During sea-ice formation, the dissolved constituents of water are rejected from ice crystals. initial fractionation organic matter (DOM) in Baltic Sea was studied through two freezing experiments and by sampling natural sea ice. DOM characterized spectral absorption chromophoric (CDOM) parallel factor analysis fluorescence. Molecular weight measurements were applied to assess changes molecular size distribution new relative parent water. Both newly formed artificial ice, CDOM...
Horizontal, vertical, and temporal variability of chlorophyll a (Chl ), stratification, currents, pelagial biology (phytoplankton, size‐fractionated primary productivity Chl , ciliates, picocyanobacteria, bacterial production) were followed at the entrance to Gulf Finland during 12‐day cast study in July–August 1994. The was carried out weak wind conditions when hydrodynamic activity minimal an intense blooming diazotrophic cyanobacteria Aphanizomenon flos‐aquae (Linné) Ralfs, Anabaena...

The structure of sea-ice bacterial communities is frequently different from that in seawater. Bacterial entrainment sea ice has been studied with traditional microbiological, abundance, and production methods. However, the dynamics changes during transition open water to frozen largely unknown. Given previous evidence nutritional status parent may affect formation, succession was under two series mesocosms: first containing seawater North Sea second enriched algal-derived dissolved organic...
