Abstract Confluences act as critical nodes in a river network they affect flow, sediment transport, water quality, and ecological patterns. A complete knowledge about hydro‐morpho‐sedimentary processes at confluences is still incompleted it has been usually accepted that secondary flows are weak because of the significant role form roughness large rivers. In this study, two field surveys were conducted on flow structure, suspended transport morphology confluence between Yangtze River (the...
Large-volume hydraulic concrete structures, such as dams, often suffer from damage due to the influence of alternating loads and material aging during service process. The occurrence further expansion cracks will affect integrity, impermeability, durability dam concrete. Therefore, monitoring changing status in structures is very important for health engineering. This study combines computer vision artificial intelligence methods propose an automatic detection diagnosis method structures....
The knowledge of the dynamics urban channel confluences is insufficient as most past studies have focused on natural river confluences. This paper reports experimental observations bed morphology and hydrodynamics their dependence to discharge ratio. Typical hydrodynamic morphological features such shear layer, helical cells, bars scour holes are identified. Nevertheless, presence a region low-velocity flow for small ratio differs from results obtained in previous studies. Two sand ridges...
Laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate local scouring around twin cylindrical piers in open-channel flows. The experimental results of clear-water the show that scour hole formed upstream pier at different spacing was almost same as an isolated pier. However, depth downstream less than with velocity can be segregated into four regions: a no-scour region, synchronous-scouring transition and radical-deviation region. Finally, relationship between deviation region two obtained.
Confluences are common components of river networks and characterized by a highly complex flow structure. Two confluence geometries, without with the floodplain in tributary, were comparatively investigated to highlight effects on hydrodynamics. The three-dimensional velocity field spatial distribution turbulent kinetic energy Reynolds shear stresses analysed. In second geometry, tilted layer was observed, which related expansion from main channel into tributary. Significant secondary...
A sudden angle change between the Y-shaped diversion channel and inlet tank of circular pump station often leads to boundary layer separation large vortex formation. These flow patterns can cause significant sediment deposition in sediment-laden rivers, reducing efficiency. mixture model is introduced describe water-sediment two-phase flows. Simulation results analyze characteristics formation mechanisms, evaluate potential areas. Without rectification, areas migration towards sidewalls...
The river networks in the plains of China are low-lying terrain with mild bed slopes and weak hydrodynamics conditions. Filled intense human activities, these areas characterized by serious water security problems, e.g., frequent floods, poor self-purification capabilities, fragile ecosystems. In this paper, it's found that all problems related to hydrodynamics, spatiotemporal imbalance network is identified as common cause water-related problems. From this, a theory for hydrodynamic...
