In this research, crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) is developed with selective content of dicumyl peroxide (DCP), and the influence microstructural properties chemical composition on mechanical direct current (DC) dielectric are investigated. The measurements for analysis taken by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), test Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). XLPE evaluated hot-set test. results show that increase in DCP increases crosslinking degree from...
Due to the increased voltage in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables, insulation layer thickens, posing challenges removing cross-linking byproducts, which influences electrical properties of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). This research aimed enhance DC breakdown while reducing cross-linker dosage and maintaining degree. Liquid polybutadiene (LPB) is incorporated into base resin, namely, low-density (LDPE), at lower level. The results show that after addition 1.5 phr LPB, strength...
Abstract The flashover strength of epoxy (EP) insulations in the High voltage direct current applications future energy grids can be improved by tailoring their surface condition. This work aims to improve DC characteristics EP after being treated with sandpaper different gradings. Samples virgin and homogenously modified considering varying roughness ( R a = 0.54, 3.16, 5.24, 8.35 μm) are prepared. Different experimental characterisations, such as water contact angle, intrinsic...
The electrothermal aging process of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation has been an essential factor for the reliability high-voltage (HV) cables, but underlying mechanism remains a puzzle. In this paper, dielectric properties in terahertz domain sliced XLPE samples from HVDC cable are investigated at duration up to 1500 h. It is found that with increase time, real part and imaginary complex permittivity decrease increase, respectively. To explain phenomenon, chemical changes...
Micron air gaps defects present in crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) affect performance and safety of high-voltage cables. Terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) offers non-contact/non-destructive advantages with high penetration depth, making it capable for gap detection. However, the propagation imaging principle THz waves micron is still unclear. In this article, 70 μm curved was fabricated through hot press method to closely resemble shape defect actual XLPE samples or without were...
During the fabrication process of factory joint in submarine cables, manual cutting and polishing are required, which can easily result scratches, pits, other defects. Meanwhile, due to limitations insulation recovery injection molding technology, air gap defects prone occur inside joints, posing significant safety hazards. In order preemptively detect such before cable is put into operation, this study mimics create micron gaps uses terahertz imaging technology visualize them. The results...
This research clarifies the significance of DC conductivity for XLPE insulation material used in extruded high voltage cables. The is a vital dielectric property, especially cables operating at HVDC conditions. For cables, with greater thickness exhibits specific radial inhomogeneity depending on crosslinking byproducts and morphological structure. influenced by structure, cross-linking byproducts, temperature fluctuation within insulation. removal essential to improve cable properties. In...
Abstract This research endeavors to advance the anti-corrosive characteristics, mainly physico-mechanical properties, by incorporating graphene oxide (GO) into a polyimide (PI) matrix. So, nanocomposite coating is fabricated for an aluminum alloy substrate. Results reveal that was uniformly dispersed across surface signifying inclusion of GO increased PI dispersion. The π–π stacking interactions between aromatic rings and contribute their stability improved anticorrosive properties....

Abstract High-voltage outdoor insulating materials face formidable challenges emanating from stresses such as electrical discharge, humidity, and UV radiation, propelling them perilously toward potential failure. To combat this, researchers explored novel to enhance insulator performance under these stresses. In this study, samples infused with micro-/nano-alumina trihydrate (ATH) -magnesium hydroxide (MH) were tested a base polymer (RTV-SR – room-temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber)...
Abstract This research investigates the transition from a micropinned to polymeric alloy structure in crosslinked‐polyethylene‐polystyrene (XLPE‐PS). Incorporating 2 wt% 10 μm PS particles into low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) and crosslinking with dicumyl peroxide (DCP) forms XLPE‐PS structures. The structure, formed at 220°C extrusion, contrasts 150°C. Morphological, thermo‐structural, chemical, crystal properties are examined understand their impact on electrical charge transport...
Abstract Developing a stable insulation material stands as crucial challenge for high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) cable insulation. This work proposes an alloying strategy to significantly enhance the breakdown strength and high‐temperature resistivity of cross‐linked polyethylene (XLPE). The involves blending low‐density (LDPE) with polystyrene (PS), resulting in polymeric alloy. Confirmation PS within XLPE is supported by observed shifts miller indices (110) (200) planes. dicumyl...
It is well known that conductivity one of the key parameters for HVDC cable insulation material XLPE, which determines electric field distribution varying with temperature and strength. In practice, XLPE insulation, especially large thickness, usually exhibits certain level radial inhomogeneity depending on morphological structure, crosslinking byproducts, so on. this paper, radially distributed non-uniform in a degassed 500 kV DC cables are examined at different stresses temperatures....
