The uropygial gland is morphologically different in diverse bird species. This was macroscopically and microscopically examined penguins, storm petrels skuas. In all the studied species, showed a connective tissue capsule one papilla. A negative relationship observed between relative glandular mass body mass, being highest (small glands) lowest penguins (large glands). Birds that spend much time water (penguins) have characteristics related to continuous, but not stored, secretion, such as...

The uropygial glands of birds are sebaceous organs that contribute to the water-repellent properties feather coat. We studied histological and histochemical characteristics gland chimango caracara using hematoxylin eosin (H & E), Gomori´s trichrome, orcein, reticulin, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), Alcian blue (AB) a variety lectins. is composed two lobes papilla with 20 downy feathers. It surrounded by capsule dense connective tissue contains elastic, reticular smooth muscle fibers. delicate...

Abstract Greater flamingos use cosmetic coloration by spreading uropygial secretions pigmented with carotenoids over their feathers, which makes the plumage redder. Because inhabit open environments that receive direct solar radiation during daytime, and bleach when exposed to radiation, we expected color would fade if there is no maintenance for purposes. Here, show concentrations of pigments inside feathers on surface were correlated, as well was a correlation between in feathers. There...

Abstract We describe the morphology, histology, and histochemical characteristics of uropygial gland (UG) monk parakeet Myiopsitta monachus . The UG has a heart‐shape external appearance adenomers extensively branched with convoluted path, covered by stratified epithelium formed different cellular strata divided into three zones (based on epithelial height lumen width), cylindrical papilla an internal structure delicate type two excretory pores surrounded feather tuft. Abstract The uropygial gland of Southern Caracara is composed two lobes with a conical papilla and 21 tuft feathers. RGM recorded for this species was 0.057%. capsule surrounding the medial septum dense connective tissue has elastic reticular fibres. epithelium adenomers can be divided into different strata: germinative, intermediate, secretory degenerative stratum. three zones; from zone III , lead to secondary chambers that converge primary storage chamber. Abstract The Hooded Grebe is an endangered and endemic species of Podicipediformes Argentina. Many aspects this bird's biology are still unknown including the uropygial gland. This first morphological histochemical description gland for in a comparative context. these birds had parallel arranged lobes with kidney‐like shape, conical papilla feather tuft sub‐terminal position. were composed tubular adenomers straight course that lead to secondary chambers. capsule connective tissue around...

The diverse colorations of a birds' plumage are due to either structural colors or pigments that synthesized in specialized cells incorporated through the diet. However, color aberrations can occur; several cases albinism and leucism have been reported for different bird species some examples found Strigiformes. A specimen American Barn Owl (Tyto furcata) with partial was Carhué, Buenos Aires province. its facial disc, tail ventral region completely white; furthermore, neck, primaries,...
