Agave mayo (sect. Littaea, Asparagaceae), a new species endemic to the Sierra de Barobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico, is described. This shares morphological characteristics with A. schidigera, from which it distinguished by its often falcate leaves leaves, inclined inflorescence, larger reddish flowers, tubes, tepal lobes, filaments inserted in middle of tube, longer ovaries, and obpyriform fruits. A distribution map biogeographic provinces provided place an ecological evolutionary context.
