We conducted a randomized, controlled study to assess the need for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) during lupus pregnancy and safety. Twenty consecutive pregnant patients with similar characteristics were enrolled. The HCQ group included eight systemic erythematosus (SLE) two discoid (DLE). placebo (PL) nine SLE one DLE. had no flare-ups. SLEPDAI scores at entry, conclusion significantly higher scores. One patient improvement of skin lesions another arthritis, allowing decrease prednisone dose....
Consumption of alcoholic beverages during pregnancy is directly related to the establishment fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), which includes craniofacial changes, body growth restriction, and neurodevelopment impairments. Proper functioning central nervous system (CNS) depends on blood-brain barrier (BBB) development, formed by interactions vascular endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes, basal lamina. Gestational exposure ethanol has been demonstrated impair CNS development;...
To analyze the impact of different classes lupus nephritis as risk variables for maternal and fetal adverse outcomes in a cohort pregnant patients. This is study with retrospective prospective data collection, conducted at University Hospital State Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 2011 to 2016. A total 147 pregnancies 137 systemic erythematosus patients whom 66 had were included. Demographic clinical features, well observed each histological class among compared those without nephritis....
Objective This study analyzed longitudinal trajectories of soluble fms‐like tyrosine kinase‐1 (sFlt‐1) and placental growth factor (PlGF) sFlt‐1/PlGF ratio in a cohort pregnant patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods Blood samples were collected (14‐18, 24‐26, 30‐32, 34‐36 38‐40 weeks), stored at ‐80°C evaluated for serum levels sFlt‐1, PlGF sFlt1/PlGF ratios. Patients classified as inactive SLE (SLEPDAI < 4), active disease > or preeclampsia (PE). Medians...
Objective To evaluate mean serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), placental (PlGF), and soluble Flt‐1 (sFlt‐1) in pregnant patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) inactive disease, active nephritis, preeclampsia for differential diagnosis between these conditions. Methods Pregnant women SLE, singleton pregnancies no other autoimmune diseases, were classified according to disease activity (inactive SLE nephritis) the presence preeclampsia. Serum samples collected...

This article describes three complicated cases in rheumatology and pregnancy. The first case elucidates the challenges treating SLE conjunction with pulmonary arterial hypertension, while second features an SLE-affected pregnancy development of portal hypertension secondary to vein thrombosis related APS. third is a pregnant woman stable who developed thrombotic microangiopathy caused by atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome, failed improve despite multiple measures including biopsy elective...
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze the occurrence and risk factors associated with infections during pregnancy in patients systemic lupus erythematosus. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort using data pregnant women who were followed up between 2011 2018 at university hospital. RESULTS: 221 erythematosus analyzed. incidence 22.6% (50/221), urinary tract being most frequent site infection (32/221, 14.5%) by respiratory (15/221, 6.8%). bivariate analysis showed that...
