AA6061 aluminum alloy was pretreated by laser welding pretreatment before friction stir (FSW). Compared with the pretreatment-free FSW process, improves tensile strength of joint 22.3%, up to 84% base metal (BM). Calculations shows that strengthening is mainly provided grain boundary enhancement, which associated smaller joints obtained. As a result electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), nugget zone grains have an average size 0.95 mm, 32.6% more refined than obtained using alone (1.41 μm).
