South American freshwater ichthyofauna is taxonomically the most diverse on planet, yet its diversity still vastly underestimated. The Amazon basin alone holds more than half of this diversity. evidence underestimation comes from backlog morphologically distinct, undescribed forms deposited in museum collections, and DNA-based inventories which consistently identify large numbers divergent lineages within even well-studied species groups. In present study, we investigated lineage Geophagus...

The Amazon pellona is one of the few species Pristigasteridae with recognized commercial value in Amazon. We isolated 24 and characterized 8 microsatellite loci for this species. The number alleles ranges from 2-8 per locus.Observed heterozygosities ranged 0.052-0.823,while expected 0.052-0.836.These microsatellites are potentially valuable tools characterizing levels distribution genetic diversity, population structure, gene flow. They may also be important parameters conservation species, as...

This note demonstrates the use of a DNA barcoding methodology in confirming new occurrence records Pellona castelnaeana and flavipinnis Branco River sub-basin. The barcode result was verified by identification based on morphological characters both species. Thus, these increase species’ ranges more than 600 km Amazon show evidence high genetic variability P. flavipinnis.

The discovery and characterization of cryptic diversity is important for conservation management, especially ichthyofauna, whose underestimated understudied. Cryptic common in widely distributed species, Pellona flavipinnis one such species. Thus, the aim present study was to investigate test whether P. harbours diversity. In this we used COI control region sequences microsatellite loci 86-114 specimens from 11-12 locations throughout Amazon basin, depending on molecular marker used. We also...

Semaprochilodus insignis is a migratory fish of commercial and subsistence importance to communities in the Amazon. Despite high intensity exploitation, recent studies have not been carried out assess genetic status its stocks. This study first estimate diversity test existence spatial temporal structuring S. through sequencing mtDNA control region (n = 241) eight microsatellite loci 180) individuals sampled at 11 sites distributed Brazilian Amazon basin. Results for both markers were...
