Abstract Background The latest advancements in DNA sequencing technologies have facilitated the resolution of phylogeny insects, yet parts tree Holometabola remain unresolved. Neuropterida has been extensively studied, but no strong consensus exists concerning phylogenetic relationships within order Neuroptera. Here, we assembled a novel transcriptomic dataset to address previously unresolved issues and infer divergence times group. We tested robustness our estimates by comparing summary...

Abstract: Three new genera and four species of the extinct mantidfly subfamily Mesomantispinae (Insecta: Neuroptera: Mantispidae) are described from Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation Liaoning Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Inner Mongolia: Archaeodrepanicus nuddsi gen. et sp. nov., A. acutus Sinomesomantispa microdentata (Yixian Formation) Clavifemora rotundata nov. (Jiulongshan Formation). The specimens herein represent first Mesozoic compression fossils to have body parts preserved, including...

X-ray computed tomography is used to identify a unique example of fossilized phoresy in 16 million-year-old Miocene Dominican amber involving springtail being transported by mayfly. It represents the first evidence (fossil or extant) adult Ephemeroptera and only second record Collembola (the also preserved amber). This using winged insects for dispersal. fossil predicts occurrence similar behaviour living springtails helps explain global distribution today.

Abstract: Several new taxa of snakeflies (Raphidioptera) are described from the Lower Cretaceous deposits Wealden, UK (Barremian), Montsec, Spain (Barremian) and Crato Formation, Brazil (Aptian). Mesoraphidia ednae sp. nov. M. hilli Wealden; Nanoraphidia lithographica Iberoraphidia dividua gen. et Baissoptera lisae is Formation. The geographical range has potentially been extended.

Abstract Evolutionary novelties are commonly identified as drivers of lineage diversification, with key innovations potentially triggering adaptive radiation. Nevertheless, testing hypotheses on the role evolutionary in promoting diversification through deep time has proven challenging. Here we unravel raptorial appendages, for predation, macroevolution a predatory insect lineage, Superfamily Mantispoidea (mantidflies, beaded lacewings, thorny and dipteromantispids), based new dated...

Two new genera and species of Megaloptera are described from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation Brazil. Cratocorydalopsis brasiliensis gen. et sp. nov. Lithocorydalus fuscata both placed within family Corydalidae. The specimens represent first examples adult megalopteran body fossils not preserved in amber, megalopterans to be formally Formation.

Two new genera and species, one indeterminate species of fossil Mantispidae, Mesomantispinae are described from the Upper Jurassic Karatau, Kazakhstan: Longicollum benmaddoxi gen. et sp. nov., Ovalofemora abbottae indet. Karataumantispa monstruosa is removed genus placed in nov. due to its different foreleg morphology (stout coxae, trochanter, oval shaped femur), addition differences wing venation. These taxa all within subfamily Mesomantispinae. An updated key given.

In a recent paper (Jepson et al., 2018) new genus of Mesomantispinae from Karatau, Kazakhstan was described. The name given to the genus, Longicollum, is unavailable, because it preoccupied by senior homonym, Longicollum Yamaguti, 1935 (Acanthocephala: Pomphorhynchidae). accordance with Art. 60.1.
