Urinary tract infections (UTI) affect community and healthcare patients worldwide may have different clinical outcomes. We assessed the phylogenetic origin, presence of 43 virulence factors (VFs) diarrheagenic extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli, occurrence hybrid strains among E. coli isolates from 172 outpatients with types UTI. Isolates phylogroup B2 (46%) prevailed, followed by phylogroups A (15.7%) B1 (12.2%), similar distribution in symptomatic asymptomatic patients. The most...

Chronic use of statins may have anti-inflammatory action, promoting immunomodulation and survival in patients with sepsis. This study aimed to analyze the effects pretreatment simvastatin lethal sepsis induced by cecal ligation puncture (CLP). Male Swiss mice received prophylactic treatment or pyrogen-free water orally a single daily dose for 30 days. After this period, CLP was performed. Naïve Sham groups were performed as non-infected controls. Animal monitored 60 hours after CLP. Half...

Extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) may inhabit the human gut microbiota without causing disease. However, if they reach extra-intestinal sites, common cystitis to bloodstream infections occur, putting patients at risk. To examine as a source of endogenous infections, we evaluated E. clonal diversity 18 inpatients’ guts and their relationship with strains isolated from urinary tract infection (UTI) in same hospital. Random amplified polymorphic DNA diversity, antimicrobial...

Sepsis is an organ dysfunction syndrome associated with high mortality. To date, no effective treatment available to combat this disease. Punica granatum L. a potential alternative due its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. Thus, study aimed evaluate the effects of hydroalcoholic crude extract from peels P. (HCEPg) in mice lethal sepsis. Lethal polymicrobial sepsis was induced female Swiss via cecal ligation puncture (CLP). Initially, animals were divided into...

Escherichia coli is an important pathogen responsible for a variety of diseases. We have recently shown that Pic, serine protease secreted by E. coli, mediates immune evasion the direct cleavage complement molecules. The aim this study was to investigate action Pic-producing bacteria in murine model sepsis. Mice were infected with (F5) or F5∆pic mutant. Animal survival monitored five days, and subset mice euthanized after 12 h sample acquisition. inoculation induced 100% death within 24 h....
