The occurrence of anaerobic oxidation methane (AOM) and trace (TMO) was investigated in a freshwater natural gas source. Sediment samples were taken analyzed for potential electron acceptors coupled to AOM. Long-term incubations with (13)C-labeled CH4 ((13)CH4) different showed that both AOM TMO occurred. In most conditions, CO2 ((13)CO2) simultaneously increased formation, which is typical TMO. the presence nitrate, neither formation nor Net measured only sulfate as acceptor. Here, sulfide...

Granulation in bioreactors for the treatment of industrial wastewater is a common phenomenon. Anaerobic granular sludge grown on brewery known to manifest electrical conductivity, characteristic that previously has been related direct interspecies electron transfer. To assess if this more widespread, we determined conductivity 28 anaerobic sludges wide variety wastewaters full-scale reactors. This revealed it highly variable characteristic: one had 171 μS cm-1 which 4 times higher than...

Root cause analysis (RCA) is one of the most prominent tools used to comprehensively evaluate a biopharmaceutical production process. Despite its widespread use in industry, Food and Drug Administration has observed lot unsuitable approaches for RCAs within last years. The reasons those are incorrect variables during lack process understanding, which impede correct model interpretation. Two major perform currently dominating chemical pharmaceutical industry: raw data feature-based approach....

Bioprocess development generates extensive datasets from different unit operations and sources (e.g. time series, quality measurements). The of such processes can be accelerated by evaluating all data generated during the experimental design. This only achieved having a clearly defined logging analysis strategy. latter is described in this manuscript. It consists combination feature based approach along with principal component partial least square regression. Application combined strategy...

Inactivated polio vaccine production using attenuated Sabin strains (sIPV) instead of wild type viruses (cIPV) is an initiative encouraged by the World Health Organization. This use preferred as it reduces risks related to potential outbreaks during IPV production. Previously, sIPV process was set up based on cIPV process. Optimizing this while only animal component free (ACF) substances allows reduction operational costs and mitigates adverse effects with derived compounds. Here,...

Risk assessments (RAs) are frequently conducted to assess the potential effect of process parameters (PPs) on product quality attributes (e.g., a critical attribute (CQA)). To evaluate PPs criticality risk priority number (RPN) for each PP is often calculated. This generated by multiplication three factors: severity, occurrence, and detectability. mathematical operation may result in some errors due ordinal scaled values assumption that factors contribute equally criticality. avoid these...

A Process characterization is a regulatory imperative for process validation within the biopharmaceutical industry. Several individual steps must be conducted to achieve final control strategy. For that purpose, tools from Quality by Design (QbD) toolbox are often considered. These require knowledge conduct associated data analysis. They include cause and effect analysis, multivariate risk assessment design space evaluation. However, this approach limited evaluation of single unit...
