We report a new surgical technique that uses biological glue to implant posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) in eyes with deficient or absent capsule. Two partial-thickness limbal-based scleral flaps are made 180 degrees apart diagonally, and the haptics of PC IOL externalized place them beneath flaps. Fibrin is used attach bed, flap. This simple method implantation requires no specially designed haptics. It provides good flap closure centration stability without suture-related complications.
A new surgical technique for endothelial keratoplasty is described, in which the composite of pre-Descemet9s layer (Dua9s layer) with Descemet9s membrane and endothelium transplanted subsequent to removal recipient9s membrane. The was performed five eyes patients, successful attachment graft good postoperative visual recovery all cases. Postoperative optical coherence tomography showed without interface abnormalities a mean thickness 28±5.6 μm. This study demonstrates practicality technique,...
To report a novel method of contact lens-assisted corneal cross-linking (CACXL) in eyes with thin corneas.Patients diagnosed as having progressive keratectasia minimum thickness less than 400 and greater 350 μm after epithelial abrasion were included. After abrasion, the iso-osmolar riboflavin 0.1% dextran was applied every 3 minutes for 30 minutes. An ultraviolet barrier-free soft lens (0.09-mm thickness, 14-mm diameter) soaked placed on cornea. Once value confirmed to be μm, ultraviolet-A...
We describe a technique for easy externalization of the haptics glued intrascleral fixation posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL). The "handshake" is modification glued-IOL procedure in which IOL haptic bimanually transferred from one forceps to another under direct visualization pupillary plane. provides better maneuverability throughout surgery and extends applicability challenging cases that require manipulation, such as drop slippage. It also intraoperative advantage well-formed globe...
PURPOSE: To describe a new technique for the treatment of keratoconus using corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments (CAIRS). METHODS: CAIRS trephined from donor cornea double-bladed trephine were implanted into mid-depth femtosecond laser–dissected channels in patients with 6.5-mm optic zone, followed by accelerated cross-linking (A-CXL)—either conventional or contact lens–assisted CXL (A-CACXL), depending on minimum thickness. RESULTS: Twenty (24 eyes) stage 1 to 4 (Amsler–Krumeich...
To evaluate the complications and visual outcomes of glued intrascleral-fixated foldable intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes with deficient capsules.Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital Research Centre, Chennai, India.Case series.Data were evaluated from records patients a primary IOL for intraoperative capsular loss or subluxated secondary aphakia. Exclusion criteria included preoperative glaucoma, aniridia, macular scar, traumatic subluxation, combined surgeries, incomplete operative medical records,...
To describe a new technique (PrEsbyopic Allogenic Refractive Lenticule [PEARL] inlay) using an allogenic corneal inlay prepared from small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) lenticule.A SMILE of specified thickness (mean: 61.5 ± 3.32 µm) was trephined at the center to 1-mm diameter and implanted in cornea on coaxially sighted light reflex under femtosecond laser-created cap 120 µm nondominant eye presbyopic patients.Four emmetropic patients underwent PEARL implantation eye. In operated...
PURPOSE: To compare the currently available ultraviolet-A (UV-A) corneal cross-linking (CXL) treatment protocols for thin corneas with respect to oxygen, UV fluence, and osmotic pressure. METHODS: Freshly enucleated murine (n = 16) porcine eyes were used. The dependency on oxygen amount of absorption evaluated using different CXL protocols, including standard CXL, contact lens-assisted (caCXL), after swelling. protocol was adapted from parameters human cornea fit thickness corneas....
Corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments (CAIRS) refer to the intracorneal placement of fresh, unprocessed, processed, preserved, or packaged rings/segments any type/length. We described uniform-thickness CAIRS previously. now describe a new technique customized personalize flattening effect as per individual topography. A prospective interventional case series patients with pericentral/ paracentral decentered cones and gradation keratometry one side steeper than other was conducted....
To determine the safety and efficacy of capsular tension ring (CTR) insertion in eyes with zonular dialysis less than 150 degrees having phacoemulsification posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) implantation.Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Chennai, India. This prospective study comprised 21 19 patients approximately determined preoperatively or intraoperatively. After a CTR, PC IOL implantation was performed. The mean follow-up 242.33 days.Capsule collapse did not occur any eye CTR....
To assess the feasibility, risks, and postoperative outcomes of phacoemulsification with posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) implantation in cases white cataract use trypan blue as an adjunct for performing continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC) absence a red reflex.Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Chennai, India. This prospective study comprised 52 eyes patients that had through clear corneal temporal incision PC IOL implantation. In all cases, was used under air to stain anterior...
Compromised visibility is problematic with Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), especially in the presence of corneal edema. Visibility may be enhanced by dehydrating cornea preoperatively and debriding epithelium, staining graft, using a handheld slitlamp during surgery. Because DMEK graft transparent, thin, flimsy, it difficult to confirm position, orientation, morphology even clearer cornea. We describe technique (endoilluminator-assisted DMEK) for identifying orientation...
Advances in technique and equipment have led to a significant increase the popularity of phacoemulsification increased its safety efficiency. We describe technique, phakonit, which lens is emulsified through 0.9 mm clear corneal temporal incision. A cortical wash with bimanual irrigation/aspiration followed by enlarging incision 2.0 inserting Staar sub-2.0 foldable intraocular lens. Phakonit safe, precise method minimal intraoperative or postoperative complications.
Darbepoetin alfa is an erythropoiesis-stimulating glycoprotein that functions by the same mechanism as recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO), but has a three-fold longer serum half-life. Reduction in frequency of darbepoetin administration would be beneficial to patients with renal disease and their healthcare providers. This study evaluated effect extending dosing interval once monthly chronic kidney (CKD) not receiving dialysis. This was multicenter, open-label 97 CKD on dialysis....
To evaluate the results of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for uniocular high myopia pediatric eyes.Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, Chennai (Madras), India.Sixteen eyes that were treated by LASIK retrospectively analyzed. The mean patient age was 8.4 years +/- 1.83 (SD) (range 5 to 11 years). Laser performed using Technolas Keracor 217 excimer and Automated Corneal Shaper microkeratome, which created a 160 microm corneal lamellar flap. Postoperatively, patients reviewed at 1 day, week, 1,...
To analyze the intra-user reliability and inter-user reproducibility of assessment corneal epithelial thickness by Fourier domain optical coherence tomography. In this consecutive cross-sectional case series performed at a tertiary ocular care institution, 210 eyes subjects underwent anterior segment tomography (FDOCT). A caliper tool software was used to measure thickness. For measures, examination done 2 examiners (user 1, user 2) within 30 minutes each other. measure, retest 1 on next day,...
