Abstract The cholinergic denervation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) provides the rationale for treatments with anticholinesterases. presence of this lesion is solidly established advanced AD. Whether it also exists early remains unsettled. This question was addressed thioflavin‐S histofluorescence to identify neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) and two tau antibodies (AT8, Alz‐50) pre‐tangle cytopathology nucleus basalis, source cortical innervation. Methods concurrent visualization tauopathy choline...
Abstract Amyloid beta (Aβ) immunotherapy for Alzheimer's disease has shown initial success in mouse models of and human patients. However, because meningoencephalitis clinical trials active vaccination, approaches using therapeutic antibodies may be preferred. As a novel antigen to generate monoclonal antibodies, the current study used Aβ oligomers (amyloid β‐derived diffusible ligands, ADDLs), pathological assemblies known accumulate brain. Clones were selected ability discriminate from...
INTRODUCTION Data management is becoming increasingly important to researchers in all fields. The E-Science Working Group designed a survey investigate how at Northwestern University currently manage data and help determine their future needs regarding management. METHODS A 21-question was distributed approximately 12,940 faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral candidates, selected research-affiliated staff Northwestern's Evanston Chicago Campuses. Survey...
Accessing the massive amount of breast cancer data that is currently publically available may seem daunting to brand new graduate student embarking on his/her first project or even seasoned lab leader, who wish explore a avenue investigation. In this review, we provide an overview resources focusing high-throughput and cancer-related resources. While not intended as exhaustive list, information included in review will jumping off point with descriptions links various interest. The divided...
Fetal neocortical transplants placed into frontal cortex aspiration lesion cavities in newborn rats have been shown to survive and exchange connections with the host brain. To further study afferent innervation of such transplants, enzyme- immunohistochemical techniques were employed examine distribution cholinergic, catecholaminergic serotonergic fibers within radiochemical enzyme assays high performance liquid chromatography used determine content neurotransmitter markers for these same...
Enterprise data warehouses (EDWs) serve as foundational infrastructure in a modern learning health system, housing clinical and other system-wide making it available for research, strategic, quality improvement purposes. Building on longstanding partnership between Northwestern University's Galter Health Sciences Library the Medicine Data Warehouse (NMEDW), an end-to-end research management (cRDM) program was created to enhance workforce capacity further expand related library-based services campus.

Pineal glands from neonatal (0-1 day) Long-Evans black-hooded rats were transplanted into the cerebral hemispheres of litter mates for periods 1 to 5.5 months. Grafts exhibited differentiated pinealocytes that intensely immunoreactive serotonin. Transplant vasculature was permeable endogenous IgG, comprised fenestrated endothelia with wide pericapillary spaces typical in situ glands, and had a volume density intermediate surrounding cortex pineals. Along periphery, transplant capillaries...
