Abstract Ecological restoration of tropical open ecosystems remains challenging for both science and practice. Over the last decade, innovative techniques have been developed, but whether they successful or not to be demonstrated. Assessing outcomes these initiatives is crucial drive following steps improve grasslands savanna restoration. Analysing 82 data sets from literature primary collection, we assessed effectiveness passive active applied in Cerrado ecosystems. We used plant diversity...

Open ecosystems are disappearing worldwide, requiring urgent restoration efforts. However, limited knowledge of their structure and composition hinders the assessment success. We aimed to establish reference values for plant community attributes in undisturbed native grasslands guide restoration. In an unprecedented data collection, we sampled 14 remnants under different climate, soil, fire regimes, representing a broad portion Brazilian savanna (except least converted northern). assessed...

Abstract During a biodiversity monitoring of woody and herbaceous plants in 2023, we observed the formation new individuals through cloning Velloziaceae species. Based on recorded evidence scientific literature, discussed importance maintaining high dominance these species seasonal open ecosystems. In addition, hope to shed light discussion asexual reproduction resprouting strategies widely widespread savanna Portuguese is available with online material.

Though they comprise 1 % of plant species on the planet, parasites are poorly known. They have been considered a threat to cultivated plants and conservation host in natural areas. Due complex interactions with their hosts, understanding biology is fundamental development strategies for both parasite hosts. We sampled two populations root Scybalium fungiforme (Balanophoraceae) seasonal tropical forest fragments identify its functional attributes. Among Croton floribundus seems be preferred...

Abstract Tropical grasslands have been systematically neglected worldwide in maps, conservation policies, and ecological studies. After eradicating invasive pine trees from a Cerrado reserve southeastern Brazil, an unprecedented grassy ecosystem arose recent satellite images. In the field, we confirmed first record of wet with termite mounds – locally named campo com murundus ˗ beyond 21°S São Paulo state. Besides reporting this occurrence, sampled two plant communities forming peculiar...
