Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) is one of the most important insect pests in world. In present study, taxonomic status B. and number species composing complex were determined based on 1059 COI sequences 509 153 hemipteran species. The genetic divergence within was conspicuously higher (on average, 11.1%) than interspecific respective genera 6.5%). This result indicates that composed multiple may belong to different or subfamilies. A phylogenetic tree constructed 212 without...

Abstract DNA barcode (mitochondrial COI ) sequences are provided for species identification of aphids from the Korean Peninsula. Most (98%) 154 had distinct (average 0.05% intraspecific pairwise divergence) relative to degree sequence divergence among value 5.84%). For in common with other regions, barcodes samples fell near or within known levels variation. Based on these results, we conclude that can provide an effective tool identifying aphid such applications as pest management,...

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith, 1797), originated from tropical and subtropical America is one of sporadic agricultural pests in the world. Since moth has high migration capacity, it rapidly expanded world distribution such as Africa 2016, India 2018, East-Asian countries 2019. In Korea, this species was firstly found at maize fields Jeju Island, early June 2019, subsequently detected many counties Jeolla-do Gyeongsang-do July first invaded populations S. Korea were...

Aphids are a species rich group comprising many important pests. However, identification can be very difficult for aphids due to their morphological ambiguity. DNA barcoding has been widely adopted rapid and reliable as well cryptic detection. In this study, we investigated diversity in the subfamily Calaphidinae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) based on 899 sequences of cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) 115 morphospecies (78 collected study 73 downloaded from Genbank). Among these morphospecies, results...

The subfamily Denticollinae is a taxonomically diverse group in the family Elateridae. includes many morphologically similar species and crop pests, as well undescribed at each local fauna. To construct rapid reliable identification system for this subfamily, effectiveness of molecular was assessed based on 421 cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences 84 identified species. Among morphospecies, 60 (71.4%) consistent with their morphological identifications. Six cryptic and/or...

In Korea, the classification of Sitophilus weevil group occurring in stored grains has been confused, resulting its misidentification most references reporting oryzae (Linnaeus). However, we recently found and identified rice (S. oryzae) populations processing complex South Korea. Here, report distribution Korea summarize morphological molecular characteristics, as well provide a pictorial identification key for weevils grains.

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is a serious pest in large numbers on more than 350 plant species the world. We have determined 15,388 bp mitogenome of S. frugiperda which includes 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNAs. base composition was AT-biased (81.3%). Phylogenetic trees present that Korean placed basal position clade. mitochondrial genome can be used for understanding recent active migration frugiperda.

Abstract The soybean aphid, Aphis glycines Matsumura, was recently introduced into North America where it has become a serious pest of soybean, Glyine max (L.) Merr. In its native range northeastern Asia, A. undergoes host alternation between the (summer host) and Dahurian buckthorn, Rhamnus davurica Pallas (winter host). On primary host, is difficult to discriminate from coexisting, morphologically similar species, including seasonal polymorphisms each species (e.g., gynopara, ovipara,...

Background The species-rich genus Aphis consists of more than 500 species, many them host-specific on a wide range plants, yet very similar in general appearance due to convergence toward particular morphological types. Most species have been historically clustered into four main phenotypic groups (gossypii, craccivora, fabae, and spiraecola groups). To confirm the hypotheses between these examine characteristics that determine them, multivariate morphometric analyses were performed using 28...
