Coendou comprises the most speciose genus in Erethizontidae, with 15 currently recognized species. Although several taxonomic studies last two decades have unveiled part of its diversity, widespread Neotropical taxon prehensilis has received limited attention. Here, we combined morphological and molecular datasets to infer phylogenetic relationships species revise taxonomy C. complex. We found four morphotypes three well-supported monophyletic clades within prehensilis. These represent valid...

Abstract: We report range extensions for three species of Amazonian erethizontids, Coendou bicolor, C. ichillus, and nycthemera. record ichillus the first time in Brazil, from Rio Japurá, state Amazonas. bicolor Amazonas, which represents a extension approximately 905 km. also extend occurrence nycthemera 620 km to south into Mato Grosso state. All records are based on museum specimens, highlighting importance scientific collections as biodiversity databases emphasizing lack research porcupines.

We document the first record of Sylvilagus brasiliensis (Linnaeus, 1758) in Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil. An adult individual was photographed October 2015 municipality João Câmara. This is northernmost report this species for Caatinga biome. article also represents important data Norte, since mammal diversity state practically unknown.

The Caatinga is an exclusively Brazilian biome, and the largest most biodiverse Seasonal Tropical Dry Forest in world. Despite that, mammalian fauna, especially small mammals, least studied of all biomes. In order to fill gaps provide detailed information on mammals (Didelphimorphia, Rodentia) we compiled reliable records focusing richness, composition some biometric data. These came from mammal collections, papers, theses, books, unpublished data, prioritizing with vouchers housed...

Abstract The brown or pouchless four-eyed opossums jupatis represent the genus Metachirus with a wide geographical range in Neotropics. Recent studies show distinct monophyletic clades high genetic divergence and recognized two species, nudicaudatus myosuros . Nevertheless, there is need for systematic revision multiple sources of evidence on taxonomy , which has never been fully revised. Here we describe new species Brazilian Amazon from Xingu/Tocantins interfluve using unification concepts...

The New World porcupines of the genus Coendou comprise 16 species arboreal nocturnal rodents. Some these are poorly known and have not been included in phylogenetic analyses. Based on recently collected specimens with associated tissue from Brazilian Amazonia, we investigate distribution relationships Roosmalens’ dwarf porcupine, roosmalenorum , using an integrative approach mitochondrial gene sequences morphological data new localities. Our results recovered C. subgenus Caaporamys. However,...
