A new species of Hyloscirtus, belonging to the H. bogotensis Group, is described from Venezuelan and Colombian slopes Sierra de Perijá. The can be readily distinguished its congeners by combination following characters: mental gland present, disc-shaped small; ulnar, outer, inner tarsal folds present; calcar tubercle absent; whitish stripes on external border upper eyelids supratympanic folds, longitudinally mid-dorsum, supracloacal fold, outer ulnar also dorsal internal surface shanks. A new species of Bolitoglossa (Plethodontidae) is described from Andean cloud forests on the western slope Serranía de los Yariguíes in Cordillera Oriental Colombia. This distinguished all other adspersa group by differences adult body size, morphometric proportions, and tooth counts. The validity also supported molecular analyses. increases number salamander Colombia to 23 highlights Colombia, with 11 species, as region highest diversity South America.

We describe a new species of diurnal gecko, Gonatodes castanae sp. nov. from the foothills Serranía de San Lucas, municipality Norosí, Department Bolívar, Colombia. The differs all in genus by combination following characters: moderate size, subcaudal scale pattern type B (1’1’1’’), typically two rows lateral scales on digits, and aspects color males (dorsum, flanks, limbs tail with white ocelli black background) females brown to reticulations withe spots greenish-yellow background)....

Abstract Aim Species living on steep environmental gradients are expected to be especially sensitive global climate change, but little is known about the factors influencing their responses contemporary warming. Abstract Although biodiversity gradients have been widely documented, the factors governing broad‐scale patterns in species richness are still a source of intense debate and interest ecology, evolution, conservation biology. Here, we tested whether spatial hypotheses (species–area effect, topographic heterogeneity, mid‐domain null model, latitudinal effect) explain pattern diversity observed along altitudinal gradient Andean rain frogs genus Pristimantis . We compiled gamma‐diversity...

The aerial spraying of glyphosate formulations in Colombia to eradicate illegal crops has generated great concern about its possible impact on nontarget organisms, particularly amphibians. Wildlife-vehicle collisions are acknowledged as the leading source of vertebrate mortality worldwide. Here, we examined spatio-temporal patterns mammal road in three routes on a fragmented landscape Middle Magdalena Valley, Santander department, Colombia. We identified species affected by mortality, estimated roadkill rates for each segment, and hotspots related to multi-scale structural connectivity. During an eigth-month period, recorded total 152 roadkills 12 native species. The roads...

Body size is perhaps the most fundamental property of an organism and central to ecology at multiple scales, yet obtaining accurate estimates ecologically meaningful metrics, such as body mass, often impractical. Allometric scaling mass-to-mass relationships have been used alternative approaches model expected mass many species. However, models for predicting in key herbivorous insects, grasshoppers, exist only family level. To address this data gap, we collected empirical (hind femur length...
