This is a case series of six emergency department (ED) patients who received an ultrasound-guided serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) for variety painful conditions. Our cases illustrate the feasibility and analgesic efficacy SAPB in providing pain management ED with syndromes, including those severe from multiple rib fractures, herpes zoster, tube thoracostomy placement. In addition, we found no adverse events our series.
We present a rare case of cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy as diagnosed by transvaginal ultrasonography. Cases such this are rare, but they becoming more commonly detected with the growing frequency sections, improving technology, and provider proficiency point-of-care ultrasound. Quick identification dangerous diagnosis can be life saving for patient, outcomes ruptured may include significant hemorrhage, uterine rupture, possibly maternal death.
Objective: The American College of Emergency Physicians recommends that transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) be used to “maintain the standard ultrasound-informed resuscitation” in cardiac arrest. To date, no standards exist on how train emergency physicians (EP) TEE use department (ED). We propose a novel educational paradigm using simulation EPs Methods: A total 63 at single-center academic teaching hospital participated 90-minute simulation-based education session summarize...
Abstract Objectives Point‐of‐care ultrasound (POCUS) within emergency medicine (EM) was a new field that has since developed into robust discipline through the efforts of early EM POCUS pioneers. This study explored experiences led to pioneers' success. These data can inform emerging fields including non‐EM specialties adopting as well other subspecialties medicine. Methods qualitative using semistructured interviews with physician pioneers in POCUS. were defined key contributors and...
Ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (UGRA) is increasingly used by emergency physicians to provide safe and effective pain relief for patients. However, one of the factors limiting its widespread use lack realistic models available learners train on. There are currently no inexpensive nerve block that injectable closely mimic nerves, fascial planes, muscles, other landmarks. Our aim create inexpensive, can be as medical training tools UGRA.By using a lean cut pork such loin, yarn soaked in...
In mid-March 2020, many North American emergency medicine (EM) physician educators found their campuses closed, educational programs canceled, and research projects furloughed as operations were directed to the clinical arena due novel coronavirus of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Widespread need for personal protective equipment (PPE) viral testing led concerns over supply rationing. The value necessity ultrasound (CUS) education has not changed during pandemic arguably grown.1 COVID-19 patients...
Aortic dissection (AD) is a life-threatening but uncommon and challenging diagnosis to make in the emergency department. Cardiac point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) often used evaluate patients with chest pain may be rapidly diagnose Stanford type A AD on suprasternal notch view if there visualization of flap. In contrast, B rare has only been reported one previous case report. We report patient who presented was accurately diagnosed using view.
Ovarian torsion is a surgical emergency that can be difficult to diagnose and therefore lead delayed treatment loss of ovarian function. While the diagnosis based clinically, several sonographic findings suggest torsion, including an enlarged ovary, presence cyst or mass, abnormal blood flow. Less commonly described finding location in clinical setting concerning for torsion. We present three cases where ultrasonographic "double bladder sign" aided early detection
Patients frequently present to the emergency department with complaints of scrotal or testicular pain. Generally, there is an algorithmic approach workup, which includes assessment for torsion, infection, vascular causes, and musculoskeletal causes pain are also sometimes considered. Spinal cord pathology, however, less often explored as a cause Here, we case 45-year-old man end-stage renal disease hypertension who presented acute After comprehensive source was not initially found....
Objectives To improve pain management in the emergency department (ED), physicians are performing an increasing number of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia procedures (nerve blocks). We aimed to examine effect a dedicated (ED) nerve block team (NBT) on and types blocks administered ED. Methods performed retrospective chart review comparing nine-month period before after creation NBT. This was at tertiary care urban hospital that is level 1 trauma center. assessed compared performed,...
