A novel material for molecular optoelectronics consisting of a composite carbon nanotubes and poly(m-phenylenevinylene-co-2,5-dioctoxy-p-phenylenevinylene) (PmPV) is reported. Incorporation the demonstrated to increase electrical conductivity polymer by up eight orders magnitude. The appear act as nanometric heat sinks, preventing build large thermal effects, which degrade these conjugated systems. It also shown that can be used emissive layer in an organic light-emitting diode, promises...

We have made electrical measurements on a system using carbon nanotubes as the dopant material. A semiconjugated, organic polymer was mixed with to form wholly composite. Composite formation from low high nanotube concentration increases conductivity dramatically by ten orders of magnitude, indicative percolative behavior. Effective mobilities were calculated space-charge regions current-voltage characteristics for 0--8 % mass fractions. After an initial rise these seen fall 1--8 doping...

Nanotubes are rich in potential applications, but they very difficult to purify, and yields often less than 1 %. The solution presented here is suspend nanotubes a polymer matrix, which then acts as filtration system. Incorporation achieved by sonication, followed period of settling, during the amorphous material falls out, leaving highly pure sample (see Figure) that contains virtually no other carbonaceous material.

Conjugated diacetylene and phenylacetylene systems incorporating Group 10 transition-metal complexes have been obtained via lithium acetylide intermediates. In the UV–VIS spectra, positioning of longest-wavelength absorption shows a strong dependence on incorporated metal. Polymers both trans-nickel trans-platinum bisphosphine diacetylide [M(PR3)2(CC–CCH)2](M = Ni, or Pt; R alkyl group) were synthesised. UV spectra show significant shift maxima from those monomers, towards longer...

The effect on optical emission of the presence carbon–carbon triple bond linkages in conjugated aromatic copolymers is studied and leads to fluorescence quantum yields up 50%, substantially higher than most conventional polymers.

The valence electronic properties of some unsubstituted and peripherally substituted oxo-titanium phthalocyanines are reported. Semiempirical quantum chemical calculations show that the nature peripheral substituents has a strong bearing on properties, including state dipole moments absorption wavelength. non-linear optical response was measured around Q-band resonance. effect different substitution patterns behaviour samples determined. combined results suggest tuning is effectively...

Optical anisotropy in a new form of crosslinked liquid crystal network incorporating fluorescent chromophore has been demonstrated. Linearly polarised absorption and fluorescence is observed oriented thin films. From measurement anisotropy, the order parameter was found to be 0.65 0.80, respectively. Temperature dependent birefringence measurements reveal that there no appreciable loss alignment up 200 °C.

Solutions of a paraphenylene ethynylene copolymer simultaneously absorb three photons intense near infrared radiation. When the polymer relaxes, it emits visible radiation which can be seen clearly by naked eye. Intensity dependent transmission studies have been used to measure α3, photon absorption coefficient. The value obtained for 10−3 M solution is 10−22 cm3 W−2, remarkably large in view low concentration employed.

The syntheses of several types polymers containing silicon, germanium and tin in the main chain are described. Optical studies show that they exhibit absorption far-ultraviolet region spectrum (200–400 nm). Electrical these behave as insulators. Preliminary indicate, depending on chemical structure backbone, it is possible to dope some via partial oxidation solution. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
