Abstract. We analysed volume change and mass balance of outlet glaciers on the northern Antarctic Peninsula over periods 2011 to 2013 2016, using high-resolution topographic data from bistatic interferometric radar satellite mission TanDEM-X. Complementary geodetic method that applies DEM differencing, we computed net main budget method, accounting for difference between surface (SMB) discharge ice into an ocean or shelf. The SMB values are based output regional climate model RACMO version...
Abstract. The northern and southern Patagonian ice fields (NPI SPI) have been subject to accelerated retreat during the last decades, with considerable variability in magnitude timing among individual glaciers. We derive spatially detailed maps of surface elevation change (SEC) NPI SPI from bistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry data Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) TerraSAR-X add-on for Digital Elevation Measurements (TanDEM-X) two epochs, 2000–2012 2012–2016, provide...
We compare ice elevation from TanDEM-X DEMs of 2011/2012 and SRTM DEM 2000 over the Southern Patagonia Icefield (SPI) in order to quantify volume loss icefield last decade. The map change rate is discussed. Detailed results are shown for two glaciers: Jorge Montt Pio XI, exhibiting opposite trends front position.
Observations of ice flow velocity with TerraSAR-X were carried out over main outlet glaciers the Southern Patagonia Icefield (SPI) since 2008 by means amplitude correlation technique. Velocity data are required to estimate export due calving. Furthermore we compare elevation from a TanDEM-X DEM 2011 and an SRTM 2000 in order quantify volume loss these last decade. Results shown for three central section SPI, exhibiting distinct differences observed trends surface topography velocity.

Our paper reports about temporal changes of the Earth's topography found in first samples TanDEM-X data when compared to SRTM Digital Elevation Models collected ten years earlier. We give an accuracy prediction and explain methods avoid systematic errors from biases phase unwrapping ambiguities. provides examples different Earth surface domains such as glaciers, volcanoes, mining activity urban areas. demonstrate conclude that higher resolution a DEM gets, more frequent updates are required...
We report on results from spaceborne velocity and topography measurements of the Drygalski glacier, Antarctic Peninsula. For our analysis we use a time series TerraSAR-X data acquired between 2007 2010 which enables us to perform an error determine higher order parameters such as acceleration. Our estimated accuracy for estimation is 2 cm/day find weak slow down at terminus glacier. Very first TanDEM-X single pass interferometric sets in allow reconstruct 3D-glacier with unprecedented...
The Recovery Ice Stream with its large catchment basin plays an important role in discharging ice from East Antarctica into the Weddell Sea through Filchner Shelf. Its scientific interest is also linked to discovery that flow influenced by discharge of several subglacial lakes, which could trigger a faster due reduced friction on glacier bed. We analyzed surface elevations Glacier system derived time series TanDEM-X data focus location lakes. absolute calibration DEMs was performed using...
An incoherent correlation approach is used to derive ice motion fields for outlet glaciers through the Transantarctic Mountains, Antarctica. High-resolution repeat-pass, left-looking-mode TerraSAR-X data from 2009 were analyzed. Detailed velocity patterns on Nimrod glacier basin and Starshot are presented.
We analyzed ice velocities and surface elevations of the Recovery Glacier system in Antarctica derived from TerraSAR-X TanDEM-X data. Our high resolution velocity mosaic was generated with speckle tracking applied to data acquired 2012 2013 using left looking mode. Flow variations along main trunk is discussed. In addition we processed 5 strips into calibrated DEMs. The Operation Icebridge ATM profiles crossing elevation show very similar patterns confirming capability SAR DEMs provide...
We compare ice elevation from a TanDEM-X DEM of September 2013 and the SRTM 2000 over main glaciers Northern Patagonia Icefield (NPI) in order to quantify change rates last 13 years. The applied procedure obtained results are discussed. In have more comprehensive picture dynamics for this region, flow velocity maps S. The TanDEM-X satellite mission through its bistatic formation provides high horizontal and vertical resolution topographic data. Multi temporal acquisitions allow short term analysis of variations the earth surface elevation which in turn can be converted to volume changes. We are investigating capabilities data detect map changes at glacier surfaces two different situations. One study case is Jorge Montt outlet South Patagonia Icefield known for accelerated mass depletion front retreat....
We discuss TerraSAR-X observations of three Transantarctic Mountain (TAM) outlet glaciers: Byrd, Nimrod and Beardmore. High resolution data acquired over the area in late 2009 2010 using left looking mode were processed to generate detailed 2D ice velocity maps by means speckle tracking. This letter aims to discuss a general framework that allows the direct interpretation of wrapped differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry phase in terms surface strain S and rotation R components. The methodology is demonstrated showing estimation components glacier flow using three TerraSAR-X interferometric geometries (ascending right-looking, descending left-looking). Finally, since left-looking geometry can be difficult obtain on regular basis, parallel assumption extended...
