ABSTRACT Improving complex agronomic traits such as yield, plant height, and disease resistance in rice ( Oryza sativa L.) is challenging due to their polygenic nature. Conventional breeding methods, often reliant on collective parameters, face limitations efficiently identifying superior genotypes. Phenomics, however, presents a promising, targeted approach by focusing individual phenotypic traits. This study employs time‐lapse imaging monitor dynamic changes plants infested with the brown...
Nilaparvata lugens is one of important pests rice causing severe damagein early September in Korea after migrating from China. We completed mitogenome N. captured Korea. The circular 17,610 bp including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a 2424-bp--non-coding region. base composition was AT-biased (89.5%). 112 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) 59 insertions deletions are identified by comparing with Chinese lugens. Phylogenetic trees presented an incongruence topology...
Nilaparvata lugens, called as brown planthoppers (BPH), is one of the important pests on rice. To identify origin Korean N. we completed mitochondrial genome lugens captured in Guangdong province, China. The circular mitogenome 17,606 bp including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a single large non-coding region 2,424 bp. base composition was AT-biased (89.5%). Ninety nucleotide polymorphisms ten insertions deletions are identified by comparing with lugens. Phylogenetic trees...
Sogatella furcifera Horvath, commonly known as the white-backed planthoppers (WBPH), is an important pest in East Asian rice fields. Fungal endosymbiosis widespread among infraorder Fulgoromorpha and suborder Auchenorrhyncha. We successfully obtained complete mitogenome of five WBPH fungal endosymbionts, belonging to Ophiocordycipitaceae family, from next-generation sequencing (NGS) reads S. samples. These mitogenomes range length 55,390 bp 55,406 bp, which shorter than endosymbiont found...

Nilaparvata lugens, called as brown planthoppers (BPH), is one of important pests on rice. To identify the origin Korean N. we completed mitochondrial genome lugens captured in Guangdong province China. The circular mitogenome 17,606 bp including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA 22 transfer RNAs, and a single large non-coding region 2424 bp. base composition was AT-biased (89.5%). 90 nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) 10 insertions deletions are identified by comparing with lugens....
Asian planthoppers (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) that include brown (BPH, Nilaparvata lugens, Stål), white-backed (WBPH, Sogatella furcifera, Horváth), and small (SBPH, Laodelphax striatellus, Fallén) are the primary sucking-type pests of rice. These three insects share morphological sequence similarities. As insecticide resistance patterns control strategies vary according to species, accurate discrimination these species is important. Here, we developed six species-specific primers based on...
Carbamate insecticides have been used for over four decades to control brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens, but resistance has reported in many countries, including Korea. The test results on fenobucarb showed that the LC50 values were 3.08 susceptible strain, 10.61 2015 population, and 73.98 2019 population. Compared populations exhibited levels 3.4 24.2 times higher, respectively. To elucidate reason varying of these populations, mutations ace1 gene, target site carbamate, investigated,...
Barley mild mosaic virus (BaMMV), yellow (BaYMV) and dwarf (BYDV) have been identified as an important causative agents for economically disease of winter barley in Korea. In this study, a multiplex reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (mRT-PCR) method was used the simultaneous detection. Three sets virus-specific primers targeted to capsid protein coding genes BaMMV, BaYMV BYDV were amplify fragments that 594 bp, 461 290 respectively. Several each target evaluated their...
Rice panicle blast is one of the most serious diseases threatening stable rice production by causing severe damage to yields and quality. The disease easy occur under low air temperature frequent heavy rainfall during heading season rice. In 2021, a severely occurred in Jeonbuk province Korea. incidence area accounted for 27.7% cultivation which was 13.7-times higher than 2019 2.6-times 2020. This study evaluated areas each region 2021. weather conditions rice, mainly cultivated cultivars,...
Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the most profitable upland crops, yielding 10,711 tonnes in an area 4,062 ha Republic Korea (Ministry Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs 2023). In September 2023, dark gray spots surrounded by yellow halos were observed on peanut leaves over 880 m 2 at National Institute Crop Science (35°50'31.4"N 127°02'41.0"E), with a disease incidence up to 80%. Early symptoms appeared as small, brown, circular or irregular that enlarged chlorotic halos. Leaf...
ABSTRACT Accurate identification of the leafhopper species Nephotettix cincticeps and N. virescens is necessary because they feed on phloem sap transmit plant pathogens including viruses that can cause significant damage to rice plants. Initially, we examined their physical traits using a microscope specific camera observed differences between two species. To further validate these distinctions molecular level, designed primers based mitochondrial genome sequences obtained from NCBI...
The white-backed planthopper (WBPH) poses a significant threat to rice crops globally. A bioassay was conducted on three WBPH populations collected from Korean fields assess the effectiveness of five insecticides, including etofenprox and fenobucarb. results showed mortality rate over 97% at recommended concentration for carbamate organophosphate insecticides. However, exhibited less than 40% in all tested with Jindo population showing highest resistance. No mutations were identified...
Insects can have a significant impact on biodiversity, ecology, and the economy. Certain insects, such as aphids, caterpillars, beetles, feed plant tissues, including leaves, stems, fruits. They cause direct damage by chewing parts, resulting in holes, defoliation, or stunted growth. This weaken affect its overall health productivity. Therefore, aim of this research was to develop model system that identify insects track their behavior, movement, size, habits. We successfully built 3D...
Dendrobaena veneta (Rosa, 1886) is widely distributed all over Europe due to its use as compost worm. The specimen presented here was collected in Tiranë district, Albania. Currently, only two species' complete or nearly mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequences have been reported the genus Dendrobaena; D. octaedra (Savigny, 1826) and tellermanica Perel, 1966. In this study, mitogenome of sequenced, assembled, annotated. a circular DNA molecule, consisting 15,475 bp with an A + T content...
