Abstract This work deals with the influence of crack depth on fracture toughness at initiation growth and constraint factor in relationship between J ‐integral tip opening displacement (CTOD). A series tests were performed high strength low alloyed HT80 steel welds, critical CTOD determined using load versus point record from three‐point bend specimens 0.05 < a/W 0.5.
