Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is still widely used for acute renal failure (ARF) in developing countries despite concerns about its inadequacy. Continuous PD has been evaluated ARF by analyzing the resolution of metabolic abnormality and normalization plasma pH, bicarbonate, potassium.A prospective study was performed on 30 patients who were assigned to high-dose continuous (Kt/V = 0.65 per session) via a flexible catheter (Tenckhoff) automated with cycler. Fluid removal, pH control, protein...

The definition of adequate dialysis in acute renal failure (ARF) is complex and involves the time referral to dialysis, dose, dialytic method. Nephrologist experience with a specific procedure availability different modalities play an important role these choices. There no consensus literature on best method or ideal dose ARF.Peritoneal (PD) used less ARF patients, being replaced by continuous venovenous therapies. However, it should not be discarded as worthless therapeutic option for...

Natural products represent a vital source of chemical entities for the development anti-infective agents. Insects face constant threats from pathogens and have evolved diverse mechanisms infection response. Among various insect species, protection provided by Galleria mellonella eggs against microorganisms remains poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate whether G. produces compounds that could serve as agents clinically important bacteria. Additionally, examined effects larval...

INTRODUCTION: The decision of when to start dialysis in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) patients with overt uremia is strongly established, however, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels < 100 mg/dL the timing initiation remains uncertain. Purpose: aim this study was assess mortality and renal function recovery AKI started on at different BUN levels. METHODS: This a retrospective performed Medical School Hospital, São Paulo, Brazil, enrolling 86 underwent dialysis. RESULTS: Dialysis 75 mg/dl 23 (Group...

In low-middle-income countries (LMICs), data regarding acute kidney injury (AKI) are scarce. AKI patients experience delayed diagnosis. This study aimed to evaluate whether nephrologist consultation (NC) affected outcomes of and compare Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN) Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO).An observational, retrospective was conducted in a tertiary public hospital an LMIC.Overall, 103 were analysed. In-hospital mortality 61.16%, dialysis required 38.83%. NC took place...

Hemodialysis services consume hundreds of liters water and generate tons plastic waste, significantly contributing to environmental impact through substantial consumption massive waste generation, both the global footprint. With an estimated three million maintenance dialysis patients worldwide, a doubling this number is projected by 2030, potentially exceeding 7 individuals with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. In developed countries, in practice conventional hemodialysis, occurring...

World Kidney Day, an initiative by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), aims to raise awareness among population about Chronic Disease (CKD), a condition that affects approximately 10% global population, including 10 million Brazilians, with majority unaware their diagnosis. Albuminuria, marker kidney damage, is associated serious risks, and Dipstick Test simple rapid method detect it. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication in hospitalized patients, particularly after major surgical procedures, such as cardiac surgery. It can reach an incidence of approximately 37% postoperative coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery with about 0.3% to 15% patients progressing the need for renal replacement therapy (RRT). The significance this lies fact that presence AKI increases mortality rates around 1.3% 22.3%, reaching values between 25% and 88.9% requiring RRT.

Urinary lithiasis is one of the most common urinary tract pathologies worldwide, occurring both in Western and Eastern regions. It has a prevalence approximately 15% world's population, which demonstrates its clinical relevance. In Brazil, data shows that there are 5-10% individuals affected by this disease, with incidence constantly increasing population. However, figures imprecise relation to diagnosis regions especially Northeast.

Cross-fused renal ectopia is a rarely described congenital kidney anomaly. It can occur in association with ureteropelvic obstruction, vesicoureteral reflux, and multicystic dysplasia, which sometimes leads to nephrolithiasis recurrent urinary infection. However, complications related glomerulopathies are rare patients Here, we report case of cross-fused associated focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Abstract Background: The diagnosis and treatment of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) rely on recognizing elevated serum creatinine levels as the indicator for suspicion. However, in older adults, lower baseline can hinder diagnosis, it may falsely appear normal even presence established AKI. To mitigate this issue, use age-validated estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) enhance timeliness interventions. Methods : This study aimed to analyze eGFR, before confirmation AKI, using Berlin...
