Sub-Saharan Africa is a hotspot for biomass burning (BB)-derived carbonaceous aerosols, including light-absorbing organic (brown) carbon (BrC). However, the chemically complex nature of BrC in BB aerosols from this region not fully understood. We generated smoke chamber through smoldering combustion common sub-Saharan African fuels (hardwoods, cow dung, savanna grass, and leaves). quantified aethalometer-based, real-time light-absorption properties BrC-containing organic-rich accounting...

Atmospheric aerosols in the PM 10 and 1 fractions have been sampled at Global Watch station Mount Cimone, Italy (2165 m above mean sea level) for 3 months during summer 2004, simultaneous size distributions derived by means of an optical particle counter. Samples analyzed X‐ray fluorescence, ion chromatography, thermal‐optical methodology order to quantify their elemental, ionic, carbonaceous constituents. The concentration was 16.1 ± 9.8 μ g −3 (average standard deviation). Source...

The atmosphere harbors a great diversity of microorganisms. Among them, some taxa bacteria, such as Methylobacterium species are abundant and recurring members the viable fraction (Amato et al., 2017; Woo Yamamoto, 2020). These include non-obligate light-users, we postulate that this function could be linked with their prevalence survival capacity in atmosphere. alternative use light to generate biochemical energy (ATP) through photoheterotrophy anoxygenic photosynthesis is known enhance...

Abstract. The joint use of hourly resolution sampling and analyses with accelerated ion beams such as the particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) technique has allowed measurement temporal patterns particulate matter (PM) composition at many sites in different parts world. demand within scientific community for this type analysis been continuously increasing recent years, but samplers suitable PIXE have discontinued and/or suffer from some technical limitations. In framework, a new sampler,...

Abstract The composition of airborne particulate matter in Montelupo Fiorentino (a small town about 20 km west Florence characterized by the presence a large number ceramic and glass factories) was studied means continuous sequential sampling, ion beam analysis (IBA) techniques statistical methods. aerosol PM 10 fraction collected on daily basis for 9 months (September 2002–June 2003). On a global scale, mineral dust is one of the major components atmospheric aerosols and has important effects on radiative budget atmosphere thus climate forcing. An accurate measurement concentration crustal elements, namely Na, Mg, Al, Si, K, Ca, Ti, Fe, mandatory for study desert aerosols. The light when measured by X‐ray emission techniques such as fluorescence (XRF) particle‐induced (PIXE), can be underestimated owing to self‐absorption emitted soft X‐rays inside aerosol particles. Airborne biological particles, such as pollen, fungi, bacteria, viruses, and plant or animal detritus, are known bioaerosols. Understanding bioaerosols' behavior, especially their reaction to pollutants atmospheric conditions, is crucial for addressing environmental health issues related air quality. Such complex investigations can benefit from experiments in controlled but realistic environments, the Atmospheric Simulation Chamber facility ChAMBRe (Chamber Aerosol Modeling Bio-aerosol...
