Since the 1950s, Roger Barker’s theory of behaviour settings has been useful for a wide number disciplines. Few realize, however, that is also methodology. Barker fully describes how to identify, describe and measure in his seminal book Ecological psychology: concepts methods studying environment human behavior (1968), this method further delineated Phil Schoggen’s Behavior settings: revision extension G. ecological psychology (1989). Nevertheless, beyond these two (rather expensive) books...

Abstract Objectives We consider the relative contributions of maternal rank and sociability to survival infant vervet monkeys ( Chlorocebus pygerythrus ) nutritional independence (~210 days) in a generally resource‐poor environment. Methods analyzed data from 153 infants born 60 mothers across three free‐ranging troops 10 yearly birth cohorts at South African research site experiencing general but variable resource scarcity. Results The population was characterized by pre‐weaning mortality...

Abstract We present data on life history parameters from a long‐term study of vervet monkeys in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Estimates are presented age at first conception for females and natal dispersal males, along with probability survival to adulthood infants born during study, female reproductive life‐span, output (including lifetime success subset females), inter‐birth interval (IBI) duration. also assess effect maternal infant length IBI. then go compare our population those two...

Trends and developments in recent behavioural cognitive sciences demonstrate the need for a well-developed theoretical empirical framework examining ecology of human behaviour. The increasing recognition role environment interaction with organization behaviour within has not been met an equally disciplined systematic account that (Heft 2018 Ecol. Yarkoni argues that one solution is to abandon quantitative methods for qualitative ones. While we agree are under-valued, argue both necessary thoroughgoing psycholog-ical research, complementing another through the use of causal analysis. We illustrate how directed acyclic graphs can bridge and methods, thereby fostering understanding between dif-ferent psychological methodologies.
