THE ONLY types of congenital abnormalities the alimentary tract considered in this discussion are complete intrinsic obstructions small bowel. Two general groups such lesions exist: (1) one or more septums diaphragms completely occluding lumen and (2) narrowing intestinal diameter at sites to point total obstruction. In latter type, proximal blind end bowel may be separated from its distal counterpart, two ends joined with a solid cordlike structure, devoid lumen. Therefore, mesenteric...

At two locations in central New York, including the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, Isodontia mexicana females nested 8 and 9 mm diameter trap nests. As is typical for Isodontia, partitions plugs nests were constructed using fragments of grass stems, outermost portion final nest plug consisted a tuft leaves that extended as far 7 cm beyond entrance. The vast majority prey adult tree crickets (Gryllidae: Oecanthinae; Oecanthus), although nymphal katydids (Tettigoniidae: Conocephalinae)...

Solitary nest-provisioning wasps and bees in North America include species that naturally construct nests within existing cavities, such as hollow plant stems or tunnels left by wood-boring insects. The materials used to brood cells nest cavities the types of food provisions provided offspring vary considerably among species. Over five summers (2001–2002, 2005–2007), we trap survey cavity-nesting wasp bee assemblage Montezuma Wetlands Complex central New York State. 350 were occupied 6 apoid...

Abstract 1. The nests of solitary, nest‐provisioning wasps (Sphecidae and Crabronidae) are commonly attacked by brood parasites, including flies the families Phoridae Sarcophagidae. Larvae kill wasp offspring directly or starve it consuming prey provided adult female wasps. 2. To determine whether parasitic can have a sublethal effect (i.e. reduced body size) on offspring, Isodontia mexicana were collected at two field sites in upstate New York, U.S.A. Nest diameter had no probability that...

Nest-provisioners included 13 species wasps (Sphecidae, Crabronidae, Vespidae, Pompilidae), which most common were Isodontia mexicana, Trypoxylon lactitarse, Ancistrocerus antilope.
