ABSTRACT
Background:The metabolic syndrome is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, which have been linked to Alzheimer disease.However, link between disease and the has not yet established. Objective:To investigate relationship disease.Design, Setting, Participants: Case-control study of 50 consecutive patients diagnosed with probable from Memory Disorders Clinics, Launceston, Australia, Bristol, England, 75 cognitively normal controls. Main Outcome Measures:The odds ratio as defined by National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III.Results: Compared controls, had significantly larger mean waist circumference, higher plasma concentrations triglycerides glucose, lower concentration high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, but they systolic blood pressure.The was associated (odds ratio, 3.2; 95% confidence interval, 1.2-8.4;P=.02), this association strengthened when hypertension component excluded 7.0; 2.7-18.3;PϽ.001).All analyses were adjusted age, sex, location.Conclusions: This suggests that syndrome.This could implications prevention treatment disease.
