ABSTRACT
Context:Recent general population surveys of psychotic disorders have found low lifetime prevalences.However, this may be owing to methodological problems.Few studies reported the prevalences all specific disorders.Objective: To provide reliable estimates disorders.Design: General survey.Setting and Participants: A nationally representative sample 8028 persons 30 years or older was screened for bipolar I using Composite International Diagnostic Interview, self-reported diagnoses, medical examination, national registers.Those selected by screens were then reinterviewed with Structured Clinical Interview DSM-IV.Bestestimate DSM-IV diagnoses formed combining interview case note data.Register used estimate effect nonresponders.Main Outcome Measures: Diagnosis any psy-chotic disorder according criteria. Results:The prevalence 3.06% rose 3.48% when register nonresponder group included.Lifetime as follows: 0.87% schizophrenia, 0.32% schizoaffective disorder, 0.07% schizophreniform 0.18% delusional 0.24% 0.35% major depressive features, 0.42% substance-induced disorders, 0.21% due a condition.The National Hospital Discharge Register most (=0.80).Case notes supplementing interviews essential disorders.Conclusions: Multiple sources information are accurate estimation disorders.The use comprehensive methods reveals that their exceeds 3%.
