ABSTRACT
The potential relationship between obesity and colorectal cancer (CRC) outcome is poorly understood in patients with late-stage disease. Increased body mass index may negate aspirin use for prevention, but its role as a factor on the effectiveness of postdiagnosis unclear. To evaluate how prediagnosis be associated overall survival cancer. This cross-sectional study used self-reported data from metastatic or treatment-refractory disease who consented to clinical protocol at MD Anderson Cancer Center, large US treatment center. Patients were enrolled 2010 2018 followed up mortality through July 2020. Analyses conducted March 2022.Body decade prior initial diagnosis regular survey completion.Overall was measured stage IV until death last follow-up. Cox proportional hazards models constructed estimate associations survival.Of 656 included this analysis, 280 (42.7%) women, 135 (20.6%) diagnosed CRC before age 45 years, 414 (63.1%) ages 65 107 (16.3%) years older; 105 (16.0%) Black Hispanic, 501 (76.4%) non-Hispanic White. Controlling age, sex, race, diagnosis, weight change date, had significantly higher likelihood (hazard ratio, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.11-1.91) compared those normal index. Furthermore, only experienced significant benefit 0.59; 0.39-0.90).In study, our findings suggest potentially differential tumor development long-term physiologic host environment obesity. Confirmation further evaluation are needed determine whether use.
