ABSTRACT
Abstract Neutralization of bacterial toxins has become a compelling approach to treating infections as it may pose less selective pressure for the development resistance. Currently, majority toxin neutralization platforms act by targeting molecular structure toxin, which requires identification and customized design different diseases. Therefore, their been challenged enormous number complexity toxins. Herein, biomimetic nanosponges are formulated coating membranes human red blood cells (hRBCs) onto polymeric nanoparticles, decoy absorb neutralize broad‐spectrum hemolytic regardless structure. When tested with model pore‐forming toxins, including melittin, α‐hemolysin methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus , listeriolysin O Listeria monocytogenes streptolysin Group A Streptococcus hRBC able completely inhibit toxin‐induced hemolysis in concentration‐dependent manner. In addition, nanosponge‐detained show no cytotoxicity when on umbilical vein endothelial lethality injected into mice, together indicate effective neutralization. Overall, these results demonstrate broad applicability high effectiveness novel antivirulence platform against from various strains bacteria.
