ABSTRACT
Methods of delivering occupational safety and health (OSH) training have shifted from in-person to online. Widespread delivery a standardized OSH course in three modalities the province Ontario, Canada allowed measurement differences their effectiveness. Learners (N = 899) self-selected into face-to-face (F2F) instructor-led learning, online synchronous distance or self-paced e-learning. Pre- post-training surveys collected information on knowledge other measures. Multiple regression analyses compared achievement (0%-100% scale; primary outcome), engagement, perceived utility, applicability, self-efficacy, intention-to-use. F2F learners achieved statistically significant 2.5% (95% CI: 0.3%, 4.7%) higher score than (Cohen's d 0.23, which is considered small). A insignificant difference 0.4% (95%: -1.4%, 2.3%) was seen between e-learners learners. Collaborating providers regarded these as not meaningful practice. Statistically were for self-efficacy. Scores more favorable scores learners, were, turn, e-learners. This study provides evidence that there are small no among F2F, e-learning ability ensure finding likely generalizable well-designed short-term aimed at acquiring new knowledge. More research needed understand whether important across basic OHS skill acquisition transfer learning workplace.
