ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Background Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) is a subtype of chronic driven by Types 1 and 3 allergies to fungi. In Japan, it relatively rare characterized prominent eosinophilic infiltration the sinonasal mucosa, together with mucin containing scattered fungi in sinus cavity. Eosinophilic (eCRS) involves similar shares some clinical features AFRS. However, differences between eCRS AFRS remain be fully elucidated. The aim this study was clarify phenotypes Methods This multicenter retrospective enrolled patients compared their parameters. A cluster analysis conducted determine two diseases. Results had younger age onset exhibited milder computed tomography nasal polyp scores than patients. Total IgE significantly higher patients, while mucosal eosinophil counts were similar. Olfactory disturbances less severe revealed three for AFRS: one that distinct independent from eCRS, representing more classically described other shared characteristics eCRS. Conclusions exhibits unique Cluster identified CT findings, inflammation, specific levels against inhaled antigens. These findings underscore importance differential diagnosis personalized treatment strategies
