ABSTRACT
Xenon fluoride was prepared by mixing commercial Xe with carefully purified fluorine (prepared electrolytically) in a Xe: F/sub 2/ proportion of 1 : 2 by volume in a sealed quartz vessel and subjected at room temperature to discharges from an induction coil. The XeF/sub 2/ initially formed was plainly unstable and disproportionated into Xe and a compound containing more fluorine, probably XeF/sub 4/. (P.C.H.)
